How to Sprint

Hold the roll button

To make your character sprint, press and hold the roll button. Sprinting allows your character to move faster than your walking speed and start consuming stamina depending on whether you're in combat or not.

Elden Ring - sprinting while mounted

You can also sprint while mounted on Torrent, although doing this while in combat also costs a small amount of stamina at the start for the initial burst of speed.

Tips When Sprinting

Sprinting while exploring

Sprinting while exploring, or more accurately, being "out of combat", allows your character to sprint without expending stamina. Make sure to sprint while roaming the overworld to cover more distance in a shorter time!

Sprinting in combat

Sprinting will start depleting your stamina bar when you enter combat or get spotted by an enemy. Keep an eye on your stamina bar while sprinting in combat, as you might need it when you need to dodge or attack.

You can invest attribute points on Endurance to increase your maximum stamina and allow you to perform more actions in combat!

Increases movement speed while crouching

Elden Ring - crouching movement speed

Although it's not technically sprinting, you can press and hold the roll button to increase your movement speed while crouching! Doing this won't consume stamina either as long as you don't get spotted by an enemy.

Increasing your crouching movement speed allows you to sneak past enemies easier or close in an unaware enemy for that sweet backstab!
