Maleigh Marais is a hostile NPC encountered in the western outskirts of The Shaded Castle in the Altus Plateau.

When to Fight Maleigh Marais, Shaded Castle Castellan

You can fight Maleigh Marais as soon as you arrive at the Altus Plateu and heading directly to the western outskirts of the Shaded Castle.

Fight at Level 50+

Maleigh Marais is a very weak aggressive NPC but he is accompanied by a giant Golem that can easily one shot weaker characters. Get your character to at least Level 50 so you can quickly defeat Maleigh Maraias before the Golem gets near you.

Lure Him Away from the Area

Maleigh Marais is located in a clearing where a giant Golem is resting. If you get too close to the center of the outskirts, the Golem will wake up and slowly approach you, often attacking as you try to defeat Maleigh.

Once you approach the outskirts, try to bait Maleigh so that he follows you away from the Golem. He will not follow you to the swamp area, but will move far enough from the Golem. From this distance, it's possible to defeat Maleigh before the Golem even has a chance to fully stand up.

Stun Him with Strong Attacks

Maleigh Marais only wears the Marais Set, which has very poor damage negation to all damage sources. The set also has very poor poise, which means it's possible to stunlock Maleigh with repeated jumping or heavy attacks.

Use Piercing Attacks

Maleigh Marais is very weak to piercing attacks and it's easy to catch him with weapons that deal this damage type while he's rushing in or evading.

Running attacks from katanas such as the Uchigatana and Nagakiba, as well as thrusting swords such as the Estoc are great at hitting Maleigh safely from a distance.

Maleigh Marais' armor set also makes him very weak to Fire and Lightning weapons and spells. Any weapon that has innate fire or lightning or equipped with the respective ashes of war will quickly bring down his health.

For spellcasters, the Catch Flame incantation is very useful in this fight as Maleigh struggles to evade this spell when used up close against him.
