How Many Smithing Stones to Max Upgrade

Smithing Stone Upgrade Requirements

Uchigatana requires a total of 12 Smithing Stones for every 3 levels to upgrade, with the exception of the final level at +25 which requires an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.

Smithing Stones Farming Guide

You'll need 2 pieces of each rank of Smithing Stone to upgrade a weapon from each Smithing Stone rank threshold. This means that in total, you'll need 12 Smithing Stones of each rank to get a weapon to +24 and the final rank requires an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone to finally upgrade the weapon to its highest level.

Somber Smithing Stone Upgrade Requirements

Moonveil requires one Somber Smithing Stone for every level to upgrade until +9. The final level at +10 requires a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.

Somber Smithing Stones Farming Guide

The upgrade progression for somber Smithing Stone is much simpler and linear where you'll only need a single copy of each Smithing Stone rank to increase your weapon's rank respectively.

How to Get and Farm Smithing Stones

Purchase From the Twin Maiden Husk

The most efficient way to get or “farm” Smithing Stones is by purchasing them from the Twin Maiden Husk. However, to start purchasing them, you'll first need to give them the respective Bell Bearing for the gear you wish to upgrade. Therefore, it's highly recommended to focus on getting the bell bearings you need to be able to upgrade your gear to higher levels.

You can find Smithing Stones and Somber Smithing Stones by exploring the world and obtaining them from loots.

Dropped by Enemies

Enemies such as Godrick's soldiers as well as miners often drop Smithing Stones and this is a secondary way of obtaining Smithing Stones if you don't have the bell bearings for the respective Smithing Stones you wish to purchase.

How to Use Smithing Stones

Strengthen Weapons at the Smithing Table

You can use the Smithing Stones that you have collected to strengthen your weapons at a smithing table or at a blacksmith. This increases the weapon's damage output, so be sure to upgrade your armament before facing a boss.
