Keep Your Distance

Grafted Scion is a dangerous enemy to fight at close range. Keep at a distance to avoid his quick attacks.

Note: You can trigger Grafted Scion's attacks by quickly alternating between moving forward and backward

Keep Your Shield Up

Having a shield is a huge advantage in this fight. The Vagabond and the Confessor both have shields that block 100% of physical damage, so losing health while blocking won't be a problem.

Stay Close to the Center

The boss area has places where you can fall off, so it's best to position yourself close to the center of the area. This will also reduce the probability of you backing up into a wall and cornering yourself.

Dodge Backwards to Avoid Damage

If you don't have a good shield, reading Grafted Scion's Attacks and dodging backwards is the best way to avoid damage.

Don't Get Greedy

Single hits are fine against Grafted Scion. Only land two hits if you're absolutely sure he won't retaliate. Pick at his health slowly and carefully, punishing him with single hits every time. Getting greedy will only get you killed.

Best Moments to Attack Grafted Scion

As Grafted Scion Appears at Start of Battle

As Grafted Scion Appears at Start of Battle
As soon as Grafted Scion lands on the battlefield, run up and get a free hit or two. Then immediately back away.

After Grafted Scion Roars

After Grafted Scion Roars
Grafted Scion's roar does some damage so it's best to keep away until he finishes. Then run up to him and perform a running attack.

After Grafted Scion's Double Spin Attack

After Grafted Scion
Grafted Scion will perform a double spin slash in place. You can do a running attack right after his second slash misses.

After Grafted Scion's Shield Bash

After Grafted Scion
Grafted Scion's Shield Bash leaves him open for a short while. It's only advisable to get a hit in if you're a bit closer to him.

During Grafted Scion's 7-Hit Combo

During Grafted Scion
This move is a bit tricky and requires precise timing. During the first four flashes of Grafted Scion's combo, stay away. Then, right after he finishes his fourth slash, flank him to the left by dodging his thrust attack. Try to get behind him as he does his final two slashes. Then, you will have enough time to get two hits in.

When Grafted Scion Mashes the Ground

After Grafted Scion Mashes the Ground
This move is the easiest to take advantage of. Simply walk backwards while Grafted Scion is performing this attack. His final jumping ground pound attack leaves him open for quite a while, so unleash a strong attack or a jumping attack.

Rewards for Beating Grafted Scion

A Sword and a Shield

Grafted Scion Rewards
You are rewarded the Ornamental Straight Sword and Golden Beast Crest Shield for defeating the Grafted Scion.

They aren't very useful, as the Ornamental Straight Sword has a low attack rating, and the Golden Beast Crest Shield requires a Strength stat of 24 in order to equip.
