Ranged Strategy

Astel, Naturalborn of the Void Boss Tips
Check IconUse tanky Spirit Ashes
Check IconUse heavy charged spells when Astel's stationary
Check IconUse Rotten Breath
Check IconUse Poison or Scarlet Rot Arrows

Use tanky Spirit Ashes

If you're summoning a Spirit Ash to distract Astel so you can attack it freely, make sure you use your tankiest one. Astel deals significant damage and can defeat your summon quickly if they don't have enough HP.

Effective summons would be your Mimic Tear, especially when equipped with weapons or spells that can inflict Scarlet Rot or Poison, or Cleanrot Knight Finlay since her attacks can inflict Scarlet Rot.

Black Knife Tiche is not tanky, but her attacks will reduce Astel's maximum health, making the fight easier.

Use heavy charged spells when Astel's stationary

While your Spirit Ash distracts Astel, position yourself in front of its head and use charged spells that deal immense damage. Comet Azur and Meteorite will be particularly effective against Astel and you'll easily be able to hit it due to its size. Make sure to cast Terra Magica before casting these to further increase your magic damage.

Use Rotten Breath

A great way to build up Scarlet Rot against Astel is by using the Rotten Breath incantation. Its wide AoE means you won't have a hard time hitting it, and you'll be able to finish the fight quickly when you pair this with other attacks.

Use Scarlet Rot Arrows

Rotbone Arrows will be effective in taking out huge chunks of Astel's health due to its weakness to these. Make sure you're constantly hitting it to trigger the status effects.

You can equip the Arrow's Reach and Arrow's Sting Talismans to increase your damage and range with bows.

Melee Strategy

Astel, Naturalborn of the Void Boss Tips
Check IconGet below Astel
Check IconExploit Astel's weakness to Scarlet Rot and Poison

Get below Astel

To avoid Astel's sweeping attacks, the best position for melee users to take will be either below its head or slightly to the side. You'll be able to reach its head or arms and deal extra damage while avoiding its tail attacks as well as its ranged attacks.

Exploit Astel's weakness to Scarlet Rot

Weapons that can inflict Scarlet Rot to Astel will be extremely helpful in this fight due to its susceptibility to these status effects.

The Rotten Crystal Sword is a great option. If you don't have gear that can inflict these Status Effects, you can also coat your weapon in Rot Grease.

Astel, Naturalborn of the Void Attack Patterns

Teleport

Teleport Information
Teleport - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Teleport: Astel will eventually teleport to another part of the boss area after you attack it several times. Back away as it starts teleporting since it can follow this move up with a Grab.

Melee Attacks

Melee Attack Variations
Pincer Strike - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Pincer Strike: When you're directly in front of its head, Astel will attack you with its pincers. You can telegraph this easily since it closes its pincers twice before striking you. You can roll through the attack.
Tail Slam - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Tail Slam: Astel will whip its tail at you when at a mid-range distance. Roll forward as the tail's brought down to avoid it.
Piercing Tail - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Piercing Tail: Astel pierces the ground thrice with its tail. Back away once it brings its tail forward. Its tail will start shaking before it does this move.
Grab - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Grab: After teleporting, Astel will sometimes grab and crush you with its pincers. This attack will always come from your left so look to that side immediately after it teleports. Roll through Astel as it nears you.

Magic Attacks

Magic Attack Variations
Meteor Shower - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Meteor Shower: Astel charges up several meteors and launches them in an AoE. This isn't targeted, so just back away then run to the side once the meteors start coming down.
Shockwave Slam - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Shockwave Slam: Astel creates three orbs in its arms and slams the ground, creating three successive shockwaves that increase in AoE with each wave. Run away once it starts creating the three orbs. If you're not able to get out of the AoE, block with your shield instead.
Charged Shockwave Slam - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Charged Shockwave Slam: Similar to the normal Shockwave Slam, but Astel creates more orbs and briefly flies before slamming the ground. It creates four shockwaves with an even bigger AoE. Use the same method as the Shockwave Slam to avoid this.
Galaxy Mist - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Galaxy Mist: Astel swipes the area in front of it and creates a mist that causes small explosions after a few seconds. Back away from the attack's range.
Gravity Lift - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Gravity Lift: Astel lifts you up before slamming you into the ground causing immense damage. Rocks will briefly float around you before it casts this move. Make sure you run away from the AoE or else this can one-shot you.
Cosmic Beam - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Cosmic Beam: Astel fires a long-range beam at you. You can telegraph this to when Astel nods its head as it fires the beam. Roll anywhere to avoid it. The fight will always start with this move.
Dive Bomb - Astel Naturalborn of the Void - Elden Ring
Dive Bomb: Astel flies and swipes at you, creating a trail of Galaxy Mist. Roll to the side to avoid this.
