Magma Wyrm Locations

Gael Tunnel

Magma Wyrm is found in Gael Tunnel in Western Caelid, on the border with Limgrave.

Enter Through Rear Gael Tunnel Entrance

This tunnel is somewhat unique in that there is an alternate entrance named Rear Gael Tunnel Entrance in Limgrave which allows you to reach the boss without going through the main part of the dungeon. As there is a Site of Grace near the boss room, using the Rear Gael Tunnel Entrance is recommended.

Lava Lake South of Fort Laeidd

Directly south of Fort Laeidd is a lake of lake where you can also find Alexander if you've been following his questline. As you approach, the lake, however, a Magma Wyrm will burst from the lava.

Lava Lake in Volcano Manor

Another Magma Wyrm can be found deep in Volcano Manor. It can be found after taking one of the cage elevators down towards the lava lake. The nearest Site of Grace is the Temple of Eiglay, which is unlocked after defeating the Godskin Noble.

How to Beat Magma Wyrm

Tips for Beating Magma Wyrm
Use the Flamedrake Talisman and the Fireproof Dried Liver to counteract Magma Worm's fire damage
Lead Magma Wyrm in large circles when it uses Fire Charge
Summon tanky Spirit Ashes such as Great Horned Tragoth to distract it
Magma Wyrm's attack animations are extremely recognizable so reposition accordingly

Magic is very effective against Magma Wyrm

Despite its imposing size, Magma Wyrm is very weak to magic, so spellcasters will be able to deal significant damage against it. Its size also makes it easy to hit, especially with large AoE spells such as Comet Azur or Meteorite.

Make sure you summon a tanky Spirit Ash to have an easier time casting your spells without getting attacked.

Attack Magma Wyrm as it tries to get close to you

Ranged users should attack Magma Wyrm while it tries to close distance between you. It only has one attack pattern that allows it to quickly reach you - the Fire Charge. Aside from that, it will just be crawling towards you, which makes for easy opportunities to get attacks in.

Coat your weapon in Magic Grease

Due to Magma Wyrm's weakness to magic, use Magic Grease on your weapon as you enter the boss arena. This allows you to bring his health down quicker due to the bonus damage you'll deal.

Attack Magma Wyrm either from behind or from the side

Attacking Magma Wyrm from the front will make you susceptible to getting hit by its Fire attacks. Try to reach its side and attack from there to avoid these. It'll also be easier to dodge away from its other attack patterns from there.

Just be careful of Magma Wyrm's Sweeping attack it'll spin around to hit you if you're attacking it from behind or from the side.

Fire Attacks

Fire Attack Variations
Fire Breathing: Magma Wyrm will breathe fire at your direction. This should be fairly simple to telegraph since its mouth starts boiling with flames right before it does this. If it breathes in a forward direction, dodge to the side. If you're attacking it from the side, it will sometimes turn to breathe fire at you in that area. Try to reach its other side so that you can get some free hits in.
Fire Charge:If you're keeping your distance from Magma Wyrm, it may start charging at you while breathing fire at the ground to quickly reach you. This has a limited distance so you can just run away to avoid this. Remain cautious since Magma Wyrm can do this pattern consecutively. Don't dodge into Magma Wyrm or get close to it during this move since the fire will stay on the ground for a few moments and can damage you.
Lava Spit: Magma Wyrm will spit lava at you that sticks to the ground for a few moments. This looks a bit similar to its Fire Breathing animation, but it will raise its head much higher. You can dodge to the side to evade this.

Sword Attacks

Sword Attack Variations
Sword Chop: Magma Wyrm will raise its sword then slam it to the ground, dealing AoE damage. This attack animation will start with Magma Wyrm lifting his sword and holding it with both hands. You can dodge away from it to avoid this entirely or dodge into it right before the sword drops to get some attacks in.
Sweeping Attack (180): If you're attacking Magma Wyrm from the side or from behind, it will sometimes do a sweeping move with both its sword and tail to try and reach you. It can be a bit hard to read this animation if you don't see its front so try to be aware of when it raises its sword above its head since this signals the move's about to occur.
Sword Swipe (Drag): Magma Wyrm will pull its sword back and swipe it at your direction. It'll mostly do this when you face it from the front. You can either dodge to the side or into this attack to avoid it.
