Elden Ring will feature 10 unique starting classes! Your starting class determines your initial stats and equipment at the beginning of the game. Learn more about the starting stats and items of the Vagabond, Hero, Warrior, Prisoner, Bandit, Astrologer, Confessor, Samurai, Prophet, and Wretch classes.

• Best class for beginners • Has the highest Vigor stat so it can tank more hits |
 Hero |
• Proficient at heavy weapons
• Great at close-quarters and can tank plenty of damage |
 Warrior |
• High Dexterity allows for fast-paced combat and mobility
• Dual-wielding is extremely strong with this class |
 Prisoner |
• High Dexterity and Intelligence allows for a good mix of melee combat and spellcasting
• Lets you engage enemies from varying distances |
 Bandit |
• Great for stealth players
• You can pick off enemies with a bow or sneak up on them with daggers |
 Astrologer |
• Has the highest Intelligence stat
• For those who want to play as pure mages and master magic |
 Confessor |
• Well-rounded stats provide for different build options
• Low Vigor is balanced by high Faith, letting you utilize healing spells |
 Samurai |
• Great all-around class for those who want a mix of long-range and close-range combat
• Immediately starts with a longbow and fire arrows |
 Wretch |
• For experienced players who want an even more challenging playthrough
• Balanced stats let you create builds however way you want to |
 Prophet |
• Has the highest Faith, allowing for strong healing and utility spells
• Also has decent stats for melee combat when needed |

Can you Change your Class later on?
You cannot change your Class
While you can change your character's gender and appearance, you will not be able to change your starting class once you finish creating your character. You'll need to make sure you're comfortable with the class you'll select.
Character Creation Guide and Features
You can Respec your Stats
While you can't change your class, you can do something similar by building your character from the ground up with a respec. You'll need to obtain a Larval Tear, which is sold by the Abandoned Vendor for 5000 runes and can also be obtained by defeating monsters across the Lands Between.
Once you have a Larval Tear, you'll need to find and defeat Rennala, The Full Moon Queen. After doing so, she'll offer you the chance to respec your stats.
