Black Knight Edredd is an optional boss found inside the Fort of Reprimand in the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree. See Black Knight Edredd's weakness and location, general tips and cheese, rewards, and how to beat Black Knight Edredd here.
Based on our damage tests, Black Knight Edredd's armor is more effectively penetrated by attacks that deal Pierce damage.
Because of this, your best options are weapons that have Pierce moves or belong to classes that specialize in Pierce damage, like Spears and Great Spears, Thrusting Swords and Heavy Thrusting Swords, and the DLC-exclusive Light Greatswords and Thrusting Shields.
Lightning is the only element that deals increased damage to Black Knight Edredd, making it the infusion of choice by either applying Lightning Grease, equipping weapons that have innate Lightning damage or have Lighting Affinity.
Weapons that deal Pierce and Lightning damage such as the Bolt of Gransax, Dragon King's Cragblade and Veteran's Prosthesis are great choices for dealing the highest amount of damage per hit.
Edredd is susceptible to both Poison, for large amounts of DoT, and Sleep, for stagger and attack interruption.
For Poison, you can easily inflict it with the Venomous Fang (or any Poison-infused weapon). If you want to use Sleep instead, the Sword of St Trina and its Mists of Slumber Ash of War are effective, applying a short stagger and interrupting his attack animations when Sleep procs.
Milady | Messmer Soldier's Spear | Great Katana |
Bolt of Gransax | Death Knight's Twin Axes | Death Knight's Longhaft Axe |
Since Edredd is weak to Pierce and Lightning, DEX builds can opt for a Lightning-infused Milady with the Wing Stance since its heavy attack does Pierce damage. For easy interrupts, use a Lightning-infused Great Katana or Messmer Solder's Spear with Giant Hunt.
STR-FAITH users on the other hand can use the Death Knight's Longhaft Axe and abuse the Blinkbolt: Long-hafted Axe Ash of War to stagger him and deal large amounts of lightning damage.
Curved Sword Talisman | Spear Talisman |
Shard of Alexander | Godfrey Icon |
If you are playing a Shield Poke build, the Curved Sword Talisman will help increase your damage for guard counters, while the Spear Talisman will enhance your thrust attacks.
The Shard of Alexander is great for those who tend to use their Ash of War like Impaling Thrust or Giant Hunt. If your Ash of War can be charged just like Ancient Lightning Spear, you can equip the Godfrey Icon to boost its charged damage even further.
Lightning Spear | Ancient Dragon's Lightning Spear | Fortissax's Lightning Spear |
For Faith users, the Lightning Spear is perfect for dealing damage from afar, while the Ancient Dragon's Lightning Spear and Fortissax's Lightning Spear are better choices since they completely knock down Black Knight Edredd, giving you enough time to cast them again.
Golden Braid | Pearldrake Talisman +3 | Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman |
Black Knight Edredd can deal both Physical and Holy damage so equipping the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman and Golden Braid helps you tank more of his damage, while the Pearldrake Talisman +3 will help with your overall damage negation
Tips for Black Knight Edredd |
---|
|
Black Knight Edredd uses a unique Ash of War called Aspects of the Crucible: Wings. When he starts taking to the sky, wait for the spinning animation to come close before dodging into it. The i-frames should ensure you take no damage.
After he does his Crucible Wings attack, he usually starts doing a triple slash attack while making his way toward you. You can use this to your advantage since these swings are easy to parry. On a successful parry, you can hit Edredd with a critical strike for a ton of damage.
Note: If you are having a hard time parrying, consider getting the Buckler since its Buckler Parry is faster than a normal parry. This allows you to parry as Edredd's attack animation starts rather than having to wait on timing.
How to Parry and Perform Critical Strikes
To deal additional damage, use charged R2s (heavy attacks) after hitting Edredd with a critical strike. You can keep the damage train going provided you have enough Stamina to chain parries, crits, and R2 wakeups.
Another move you can easily exploit is Edredd's jump attack. Dodge into it so that you're in position when he lands, before walking behind him and initiating a backstab. Aside from parries, this is one of the easier moves to punish while fighting Edredd.
One way to cheese Black Knight Edredd is to equip the Bolt of Gransax, lock on to him outside the doorway, and spam the Ancient Lightning Spear Ash of War. This knocks Black Knight Edredd flat on his back on hit, giving you enough time to use the Ash of War again before he gets up and runs towards you.
Invest in at least 20 Mind so you have enough FP to spam the Ash of War.
Another way to cheese him is with the Giant Hunt Ash of War as it sends Black Knight Edredd flying into the air and falls flat on his back. You can then chain the knockdowns continuously by spamming the Ash of War while he is still recovering to prevent him from doing any moves.

Black Knight Edredd can be found guarding a room at the upper level of the Fort of Reprimand in Scadu Altus. Unlike most bosses, he won't have a fog wall, allowing you to move in and out of the arena when fighting him.
