Pokemon Legends Arceus - What Happens When You Lose
Losing a battle causes you to black out and lose some items in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Read on to learn what happens if you take too much damage and what to do when you lose a battle.

What Happens When You Lose

What Happens Depends on How You Lose

If the Trainer faints... Lose some of the items from your Satchel
If all of your Pokemon faint in battle... No penalty
If all of your Pokemon faint in a Frenzied Noble (Boss) battle... No penalty

You Lose Some of the Items If the Trainer Faints

Lose Items mode:scale

If you receive too much damage falling from a high place or getting attacked by a wild Pokemon, you'll drop some of the items in your Satchel and respawn at Base Camp. You cannot go back and pick up the items you dropped yourself, so leave any items you're not planning to use immediately in the one of the Item Storage locations.

Items you dropped can be picked up by other players and returned to you if you're connected to the Internet. Check out the Lost & Found Guide below to learn more about this feature!

You Won't Lose Anything If All Your Pokemon Faint In Battle

If you are defeated in a Frenzied Noble battle or a regular Pokemon battle, you can immediately rematch with your Pokemon fully recovered. You will not lose any items or money when this happens.

You Won't Lose Anything If the Trainer Faints in Boss Battles

Frenzied Noble Pokemon Blacking Out

When your health drops to zero when battling Frenzied Noble Pokemon, you will black out and lose the encounter. You will not lose any items or drop money when you lose against Noble Pokemon.

You will then be asked if you want to attempt the battle again and have several options to choose from.

Restart battle

Choosing restart battle will take you back to the start of the encounter, and the boss' Frenzy Gauge will also be replenished.

Continue battle

Frenzy Gauge

Continuing the battle will allow you to resume the encounter from a checkpoint, which is essentially the divisions in the bosses' Frenzy Gauge. This will allow you to continue the boss battle without restarting from the beginning!

Upon choosing this option, you will get a prompt if you want to resume from a checkpoint, or start from the beginning.

Admit defeat

Choosing this option will bring you back to the overworld, in case if you want to replace a Pokemon in your party or if you want to fight the Frenzied Noble Pokemon at another time instead.

Options not available in rematches

Noble Pokemon Rematch

Upon reaching post-game, you can rematch all five Frenzied Noble Pokemon by going back to their respective Arenas. However, blacking out during these battles will not give you the options to restart the battle or continue from a checkpoint.

Completing these rematch encounters will net you Exp. Candies M, and an additional Exp. Candy L if you managed to not get hit during the fight!

What Causes You to Faint?

You Will Faint If You Take Too Much Damage

You can take damage from wild Pokemon attacks, falling from high places, or drowning in deep bodies of water. When the edges of the screen turn red, you'll faint if you take any more damage.

How to Check How Much Damage You've Received

Black Frame Red Frame
Taking damage. About to faint.

You can check the approximate damage you're receiving by the color of your screen this way.

How to Recover

You Can Recover When Not Being Targeted

You will recover automatically over time from the damage you received when not being targeted by a wild Pokemon. You won't start recovering until you get away from any Pokemon targeting you, so if the frame of the screen is red and you're about to faint, make your getaway to a safe place on Wyrdeer or another ridable Pokemon.

You may need to avoid Alpha Pokemon if you come across them in the wild area. These are large and aggressive Pokemon that attacks trainers up close. It is best not to face them if you have a low-level party.

If you find one in the area, you can use the Arc Phone to mark their location on the map.
