List of Contents
The first time you catch a Pokemon and add it to your Pokedex, you'll immediately have a list of all the tasks associated with it. This will give you an idea of how much work you'll have ahead of you and you can plan out what you'll need.
Note that newly completed Research Tasks will only reflect your Research Level once you submit your survey report to Professor Laventon at base camps. This way, he can update your Pokedex and your Research Level and Survey Corps Rank will increase accordingly!
Survey Report: List of Criteria and Rewards
Every time you interact with Pokemon, your Task Progress is updated and it shows when focusing on Pokemon! You can even take a peek at your Pokedex entry for the Pokemon you're looking at by using ZL and then pressing the down button. This allows you to make decisions about what tasks you might want to tackle at the moment.
If you can't recall how far you've come in your planned tasks, you can use the above method or take note of the notification that appears when you catch or interact with Pokemon! This is very useful especially if you're looking to complete the Pokedex Entries for certain Pokemon to fulfill Requests.
Requests that Require Complete Pokedex Entries | ||
---|---|---|
Adorable Starly Starly |
The Timbre of the Fields Kriketot |
To Bloom or Not to Bloom Cherrim |
A Beautiful Rose... Roselia |
Octillery's Ink Octillery |
Getting to Know the Ghosts Gastly |
It is recommended to complete all Research Tasks that don't require much work and are marked with a double arrow. These requests are worth double and will help you grow quicker in a shorter amount of time!
A great way to complete Research Tasks is by simply leveling up and evolving your Pokemon. Though it may take some time, it's a sure way to raise your Research Level as many Pokemon with Evolution Research Tasks have double arrows.
Given the Pokemon Legends: Arceus features Exp. Share among carried Pokemon, it is recommended to bring along multiple low-level evolvable Pokemon to your party in order for them to gain shared Exp from your battles and eventually evolve.

To complete some Research Tasks, you'll need to catch Pokemon, sometimes without being seen. Crouch down in tall grass or in the shadows cast by cliffs in order not to be seen as you approach Pokemon. In addition, you can lure them closer using food such as berries and fulfill feeding research tasks for different Pokemon!
Once you've thrown your Poke Ball, hold ZR and then ZL to aim and ready another Poke Ball for any escapees. Keep throwing more Poke Balls in rapid succession while hidden and you're sure to snag quite a few Pokemon for your Research Tasks!
If you're confident you can react quickly, you can send out multiple Pokeballs at once, targeting groups and potentially catching multiples at once! This is best done for Pokemon with high spawn rates or during Mass Outbreaks.
Aniother great way to fulfill different research tasks at once is to defeat wild Pokemon while using Pokemon you need to observe. Using and fighting Pokemon that you wish to complete the Pokedex entries off will make it much quicker to observe their moves, earn EXP, and defeat them to fulfill tasks.
To prolong the battles and allow you to use and observe certain moves, you should choose non-damaging attacks when you can or fight Pokemon of similar types to yours to deal less damage!
Completing Research Tasks and increasing your Research Level raises your rank as a member of the Galaxy Expedition Team, granting you access to new areas.
Unlocking new areas is highly recommended as it gives you a chance to catch more Pokemon, gain access to Requests, and further expand the Hisui Region map.
In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, catching a Pokemon once will not complete your Pokedex entries!
Pokedex completion can be done by accomplishing Research Tasks and raising your Research Level.
If you plan on catching all Pokemon, it is a must to raise your Research Level.
The Research Level determines the player's Pokedex entry progress per Pokemon. The Research Level for a specific Pokemon can be found on the bottom right corner of the Pokedex.
Completing Research Tasks assigned to each Pokemon and reporting back to Professor Laventon updates your Pokedex entries.
Doing this gives you Research Points towards your Survey Corps Rank, which may give you benefits such as more areas to explore, as well as being a step closer to completing the Pokedex.
You can check how many more points you need to rank up by looking at your Pokedex's cover.
