After visiting the Training Ground for the first time and battling against Akari/Rei during the Request from Mai Mission, you can unlock the quest by resetting the area. Quickly exit and reenter Jubilife Village to reset the area and see all the requests available.
You will not see a request marker above Sho, so you will need to talk to him to find out about the request.

2 | Get 5 Poke Balls to give to Sho. You can buy Poke Balls at the General Store or craft them at the Craftworks. |
3 | Give the 5 Poke Balls to Sho. You can obtain the Poke Balls before accepting the request. |
