Pokemon Legends Arceus takes place in the Hisui Region, the early settlement period of the Sinnoh Region. Read on to learn about the time period and region setting of the new Pokemon game.

Many Generations Before Diamond & Pearl
Pokemon Legends Arceus takes place during the early settlement period of the Sinnoh Region, many generations before the events of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
A few characters that you'll meet in Legends Arceus will be ancestors of characters you met in Diamond and Pearl, including Commander Kamado, who is the ancestor of Professor Rowan.

Before the Pokemon League was Established
The player will begin their adventure at a time when being a Pokemon Trainer was rare, so the Pokemon League and Gym battle system will not be present.
You will have to craft primitive Poke Balls for the first time due to their scarcity. Similarly, little is known about the map and Pokedex of the era, since few have embarked on the quest to gather data and fill it out at this point, which is what your adventure with the Galaxy Team will primarily be about.
Based on Meiji Period Japan
The game's time period looks to be based off Meiji Period Japan, as it incorporates elements of traditional Japanese fashion and architecture with elements from more western regions from this time period, such as post-Industrial Revolution looking Poke Balls, gas lamps, and Warden Lian even wearing a cowboy hat.

Hisui Region
Pokemon Legends Arceus takes place in the Hisui Region, which is geographically the Sinnoh Region from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl but in the distant past, during its early settlement period.

The only settlement present at the time of the game is Jubilife Village, which is an early set up of the modern day Jubilife City found in the Sinnoh Region.
Additionally, Mt. Coronet is still located at the center of the region, dividing it into 2.
Regional Variants exclusive to Hisui are introduced as well
Like the recently introduced Alola and Galar regions, the Hisui region will also debut new Pokemon and regional variants exlcusive to its region!
