How to Check Player HP 2.png

You can check player HP by looking at the border on your screen and observing your character. Read on to learn how to check player HP, what screen borders indicate danger, how to avoid aggressive Pokemon attacks, what happens when you black out, and how to recover HP in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

How to Check Player HP

Observe Screen Border

While the absence of your character's HP bar is a bit troublesome, observing the border on your screen is a good indicator of how your character is doing.

Most of the time, your screen will look normal with no borders. This indicates that your character is still healthy. However, there are times when the border on your screen turns black or red depending on how much damage you have taken from a Pokemon.

Black Border

Rei and Alpha Electivire.png

A black border on your screen indicates that you have been attacked by an aggressive Pokemon once and have taken a little damage. In addition, you'll also notice that your character will glow red. Be careful and try to avoid getting your character in the red.

Red Border

On the other hand, a red border indicates that your character has taken a lot of damage and will black out soon. When this happens, run away to a safe place to avoid blacking out.

How to Stay Healthy

Dodge Direct Pokemon Attacks

Rei Dodge.png

In your adventure, you'll run across aggressive Pokemon that will attack you when they sense your presence. Getting hit with one of their attacks will damage your character so always make sure to dodge them as much as you can.

Be Sneaky

Alternatively, you can try to be sneaky to avoid alerting Pokemon with your presence. Hiding in tall grass or behind structures such as rocks or trees will usually do the trick!

You can also use items like smoke bombs to help conceal your presence from Pokemon even more.

Be Careful of Alpha Pokemon

Rei and Alpha Garchomp.png

Pokemon Legends: Arceus has introduced Alpha Pokemon - large and aggressive Pokemon with glowing red eyes that will attack your character when provoked. These Pokemon are more dangerous than regular wild ones and will attack trainers that get too close.

Be careful around Alpha Pokemon and make sure to bring a Pokemon strong enough to take it down.

What Happens When You Black Out

Lose Some of Your Items

Lose Items.png

Blacking out will make you lose some of the items you have in your inventory. It is still unclear whether how many of your items will be lost or if it's going to be random. We also don't know if this includes losing very important items like a Master Ball (if there even is one in the game).

Blacking Out During a Noble Pokemon Fight Will Restart the Fight

Akari and Kleavor.png

If you black out during a Noble Pokemon fight, you'll need to attempt the fight again to quell its frenzy. Remember to aim your balms at the Noble and dodge its attacks as much as you can.

How to Beat Frenzied Noble Pokemon

How to Recover HP

You Can Recover When Not Being Targeted

You will recover automatically over time from the damage you received when not being targeted by a wild Pokemon. You won't start recovering until you get away from any Pokemon targeting you, so if the frame of the screen is red and you're about to faint, make your getaway to a safe place on Wyrdeer or another ridable Pokemon.
