Though Cherrim can be found in Obsidian Fieldlands and Crimson Mirelands, we recommend waiting until you reach Coronet Highlands to complete this request. Even though you unlock the map much later in the game, Cherrim here are significantly more common than in previous zones.
Specifically, it is best to catch them at Lonely Spring since there are plenty of trees where they can spawn in. When you see a shaking tree, throw a Partner Pokemon's Poke Ball at it to reveal the Pokemon hiding inside.
When there are no trees shaking in the area, head to the nearby Base Camp, leave the area, and come back to reset the map. However, keep in mind that you need to complete Request 65: Setting Up the Mountain Camp to unlock the Base Camp in this area.
The Version 1.0.2 update for Pokemon Legends: Arceus has fixed a bug where Cherrim cannot be captured when it changes its form during the battle. Once you have downloaded the patch, you can catch Cherrim even if it changes forms mid-encounter.

If you are still having trouble finding a Cherrim, you might have better luck evolving Cherubi into Cherrim instead. They can be found in the same areas as Cherrim, but are usually much more common. The Cherubi caught at Lonely Spring are only a few levels away from evolving.
Make sure to only evolve Cherubi during the daytime so that it counts for 2 Research Tasks instead of just one.
Mass Outbreaks are rare occurrences that spawn a large number of a specific Pokemon. There will be times that Cherubi will have a mass outbreak, and you will have a higher chance of capturing it to evolve into Cherrim and complete its Pokedex entry.
Mass Outbreak Guide and List of Pokemon
One of thew ways you can increase Cherrim's research level is to catch just one, have it learn Petal Dance, and use it in battle several times. If you use the move in Agile Style, this could also count for 2 Research Tasks instead of just one.
However, since Cherrim only learns Petal Dance at the relatively high level of 47 and masters it at 59, we do not recommend this method unless you already have a high leveled Cherrim on you. It would require significantly more time to train Cherrim than to catch more of them.
