This is a guide to Effort Values (EVs) and Individual Values (IVs) in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Read on to learn about IVs, EVs, and the new Effort Levels system that replaces EVs.

Are there IVs in the Game?

IVs are Not in the Game

Unlike past Pokemon titles, Pokemon Legends: Arceus does not have IVs, which accounted for stat differences even among Pokemon of the same kind. With IVs now out of the picture, two Pokemon of the same kind placed under the same conditions will end up with the same stats if they have the same Nature and Effort Levels (sometimes referred to as Grit Levels or Ganbare Levels).

Is Breeding in the Game?

Lack of IVs Removes the Burden of Breeding

Without IVs to worry about, giving a Pokemon its desired stats becomes much simpler: the only thing to look out for is what type of Nature a Pokemon has. Nature determines which stats are boosted and hindered, and getting Mints will allow you to change the Nature of your Pokemon.

How to Change Natures

Case Study of Whether or Not IVs Exist

Using a Starter Pokemon and Bidoof to Verify Lack of IVs

The Game8 Team set out to confirm or deny the existence of IVs by catching large amounts of the same Pokemon at the same level. The Pokemon used in this case study were a Starter Pokemon (with fixed IVs should they exist) and Bidoof, which are easy to catch in large quanitities.

In conclusion, the Game8 Team found that any two of the same Pokemon of the same level with the same Effort Levels will have the same stats.

Case Study 1 Results: Starter Pokemon Cyndaquil (Lv. 5)

Stat Values in Common at Effort Level 0 (No Stat Modification)
HP Attack Defense Special Attack Special Defense Speed
47 40 33 46 38 49

Minor differences in stats are due to nature differences.

This experiment was performed directly after obtaining the Cyndaquil.

Case Study 2 Results: Bidoof (Lv. 4)

Stat Values in Common at Effort Level 0 (No Stat Modification)
HP Attack Defense Special Attack Special Defense Speed
67 34 30 27 30 24

Minor differences in stats are due to nature differences.

This experiment was performed with Bidoof that were level 4 at the time they were captured.
