Who is Mai?

Description	Mai is in charge of caring for a special Wyrdeer that can be found in the Obsidian Fieldlands. She and her partner, Munchlax, grew up together as if they were siblings.

Mai is a warden from the Diamond Clan. She sports a blue Diamond Clan uniform designed with a symbol of their clan on the front. An Ursaring and Stantler can also be seen on her uniform!

You'll first meet Mai during the mission A Request from Mai where she challenges you to a Pokemon battle to prove your strength.

Taking Care of Wyrdeer

As a warden of the Diamond Clan, Mai was tasked to look after a special Wyrdeer in the Obsidian Fieldlands. After gaining Wyrdeer's favor, you can summon and ride it while exploring!

Using the Celestica Flute, you can summon this special Wyrdeer that will let you hop on its back. This will allow you to cover great distances with ease as you explore the Hisui region.

How to Ride Pokemon

Mai and Munchlax

The warden can often be seen with her partner Pokemon, Munchlax. The two grew up together like siblings and like to join Pokemon Battles. Mai mentioned that Munchlax fights by her side by choice and without the need for Poke Balls.

Warden Mai in Legends Arceus is also speculated to be the ancestor of Marley from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, due to the near identical character design and Marley's name in Japanese being “Mai” as well.

While still possible, the two characters are quite different. Not much is known about Marley, other than she focused on the Speed stat with her partner Pokemon Arcanine and that she was investigating the path to Shaymin on Victory Road.

How to Beat Mai and Her Munchlax

During the mission A Request from Mai, Mai will challenge you to a Pokemon battle against her Munchlax.

Munchlax, being a Normal-type, is weak to Fighting-type moves. You can have Zisu teach your Pokemon Rock Smash if you don't have any Fighting-moves on your current team.

Also, keep in mind that Munchlax can use Rollout that deals super effective damage against Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug types.
