PLA Swim and Surf

You can only swim for a short time before you drown and there is no way for you to swim longer until you unlock the ability to surf by riding Basculegion. Read on to find out how to swim, how to surf on water, and how to build a Bibarel bridge in Pokemon Legends: Arceus!

How to Swim in Water

How to swim in Water Pokemon Legends Arceus

To swim in water, your character will simply need to enter any body of water while not riding on a Basculegion. However, after only a few seconds of entering the water, your character will quickly drown and take damage and you will respawn on a nearby land mass if you do not get to land in time.

If you enter water while riding any of your other rideable Pokemon that is not Basculegion, they will automatically change to Basculegion and drop you into the water.

Can You Swim Longer?

Can You Swim Longer Pokemon Legends Arceus

There is no way to extend the amount of time you can spend in the water without drowning aside from unlocking Basculegion. This will enable your character to surf over the water instead of swim, allowing you to access far-off islands and deep-sea Pokemon.

Unlock Basculegion as a Rideable Pokemon

Pokemon Legends Arceus - Basculegion Evolution

To unlock the ability to surf, you will first need to unlock Basculegion as a rideable Pokemon. After meeting Warden Iscan for the first time, he will instruct you to catch a Dusclops in order to create food that Basculegion likes.

Once you complete this task, he will summon Basculegion and give you the ability to summon and ride it at any time.

Build and Walk on Bibarel Bridge

It is possible to cross a body of water by lining up Bibarels and walking on top of them. This will allow you to reach islands in Obsidian Fieldlands and Crimson Mirelands during the early game even before unlocking Basculegion which lets you surf on water.

Steps to Make a Bibarel Bridge
1 Riverbank Slope
Along a riverbank, find a slope that is not too steep.
You should still be able to stand on the slope without sliding in the water.
2 Bibarel Placement
Face the water and throw a Bibarel with half its body still on land and the other submerged.
3 Standing on Bibarel
Walk up to Bibarel until you are able to stand mid-air.
This step will take you a couple of attempts. Try adjusting Bibarel's positioning, crouching and walking up to Bibarel, or find another area.
4 Bibarel Bridge
Face the direction of where you want to go and throw another Bibarel next to the one you are standing on.
It is recommended to save often as you progress so you can reset the game if you fall down Bibarel.
5 Return the first few Bibarels you sent out to their Poke Balls and connect them in front of you.

Avoid Aggressive Pokemon While on Top of Bibarels

Make sure to avoid wild Pokemon, especially aggressive ones, as your Bibarels will go back to their Poke Balls once a wild Pokemon is alerted.

Additionally, if you are setting up the Bibarel bridge, make sure to do it in a clear area where there are no Pokemon as throwing a Bibarel when a wild Pokemon is near will start a battle.
