Pokemon Legends: Arceus will not feature Mega Evolutions, as the game does not have the usual Battle System and trainer battles, and mostly focuses on capturing and researching wild Pokemon.

Additionally, the game prioritizes focus on the new Pokemon and regional variants, as well as the new Noble Pokemon.

Not a Staple Feature

Mega Evolution has been a recurring feature in the mainline Pokemon games since its debut in Generation 6's Pokemon X and Y, but have not appeared in a mainline Pokemon game since Generation 7's Pokemon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!.

Release Year Game Title Mega Evolutions?
2013 X and Y
(Debut)
2014 Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
2016 Sun and Moon
(Post-game)
2017 Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
(Post-game)
2018 Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!
2019 Sword and Shield
2021 Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Since its debut in Pokemon X and Y, Mega Evolutions have only not appeared in BDSP and Sword & Shield, as the former attempted to be a faithful remake of earlier games that did not feature Mega Evolutions, while the latter focused on the Dynamax and Gigantamax features.

During battle, triggering a Pokemon's Mega Evolution will temporarily buff their base stats and change their Ability. Mega Evolutions can occur once in each battle, and stay in effect until the Pokemon faints.

Only 48 Pokemon can Mega Evolve. It requires a Mega Stone to be held by the Pokemon and the trainer must have a Key Stone that is obtained by venturing through the story.
