Comet Shards can sometimes be found on the ground in Space-Time Distortion Zones. Be sure to pick up all items you find there, as you can turn a large profit!
Space-Time Distortion Trigger and List of Pokemon
After updating to Version 1.1.0, there is a chance that you could get pulled into a cutscene with Captain Cyllene and Commander Kamado when you enter Jubilife Village at night after completing the game. At the end of the cutscene, Kamado will give you a Comet Shard.
