Pokemon Legens Arceus Pokemon Behaviors

Pokemon have different temperaments and behaviors in Pokemon Legends Arceus, which affects how players can catch and battle them. Read on to learn about their effects, symbols, and how to catch alert and unaware Pokemon.

Pokemon Temperaments

Different types of Pokemon will have different temperaments and react differently when the player approaches. These temperaments affect how easily you can catch each Pokemon and whether you will need to battle them before throwing a Poke Ball.

How to Catch Pokemon

Some Pokemon Ignore the Player

Pokemon Legends Arceus Bidoof Ignores Player

There are certain types of Pokemon that simply ignore the player as they approach. These Pokemon could be easier to catch since you can easily throw a Poke Ball at them. These would be Pokemon like Bidoof, Aipom, Ponyta, Wurmple, etc.

Skittish Pokemon Run Away

Pokemon Legends Arceus Skittish Pokemon

Some types of Pokemon such as Starly are skittish and will run away when they see the player. Since they will avoid the player once startled, these Pokemon would be significantly harder to catch and you will likely need to sneak up on them before throwing a Poke Ball.

Aggressive Pokemon Attack the Player

Pokemon Legends Arceus Aggressive Pokemon

Aggressive Pokemon like Shinx will immediately attack when they see the player. Once they are in this alert state, you will see a red eye symbol above the screen and Poke Balls will simply deflect off of the Pokemon.

To catch alerted Pokemon, you will need to enter battle to weaken them. If you do not wish to enter battle, make sure to sneak up on aggressive Pokemon instead, so they do not spot you.

Symbols Above the Pokemon

Symbol Meaning
Pokemon Legens Arceus Thought Bubble Symbol Pokemon with a thought bubble above their heads have likely not yet noticed the player, but have the player in their line of sight, so it is only a matter of time before you are spotted.
Pokemon Legens Arceus Exclamation Point Symbol When an exclamation point appears above a Pokemon's head, they are likely skittish or aggressive Pokemon that have spotted the player and will start to run away or attack.
Pokemon Legens Arceus X Symbol When you see an X-symbol above a Pokemon, you are likely unable to catch that Pokemon because they are in an alert state, and you will need to battle it to be able to throw Poke Balls.
Pokemon Legens Arceus Poke Ball Symbol The Poke Ball symbol likely appears above a Pokemon when it is able to be caught.
Pokemon Legens Arceus Red Eye Symbol The red eye symbol does not appear above the Pokemon, but at the top of the screen. This appears when an aggressive Pokemon enters an alert state.

Unaware Pokemon

Pokemon Legends Arceus Unaware Pokemon

Unaware Pokemon are those that have not yet spotted the player as you are sneaking up on them. While a Pokemon is unaware, you are able to throw a Poke Ball at any time for a chance to catch them.

When you throw one of your party members' Poke Ball at a Pokemon that has not yet spotted you, that Pokemon will be caught unawares. This will grant you an extra chance to attack them in battle.
