Consequently, you can catch the other two starter Pokemon in these Space-Time Distortions as well, meaning that you no longer have to trade Pokemon in order to complete the starters unlike in previous games. Starters from the Space-Time Distortions also have a chance to be shiny!
Are Starters and Legendaries Shiny Locked?
Once you have reached post-game, visit the Galaxy Team HQ and talk to Captain Cyllene followed by Professor Laventon.
The professor will hand you the two starters you did not choose at the beginning of the game if you agree to bring them along to your excursions.
All Pokemon found through static encounters are shiny-locked, meaning they are unable to be shiny. This applies to the starter you choose from Professor Laventon at the start of the game.
Starters found through other means will have a chance to be shiny, but you won't be able to have a shiny starter join you on your adventure.

Research Tasks Guide: How to Complete the Pokedex
Choosing a starter Pokemon is one of the most important decisions every new trainer has to do at the start of their journeys.
While you will be able to build a team to accommodate for weaknesses, having a strong partner from the start can help ease your adventure. Here are some pros and cons to choosing Oshawott as your starter.
Best Starter Pokemon: Which Starter Should You Choose?
As a Water-type, Oshawott has a good balance of offense and defensive type advantages. In previous games it also had access to above average moves such as Aqua Jet that could end up being useful too.
Out of all the three starters, Oshawott is the only one with the least disadvantage against the Frenzied Nobles, being only disadvantageous to Hisuian Lilligant and Hisuian Electrode.
With water-types being some of the most plentiful among all Pokemon, Oshawott and its evolutions are up against a lot of competition for the water-type slot on your team.
Strong staples such as Gyarados can offer the same or better offensive prowess your team needs, and the novelty of using Basculegion may also interest you.
First introduced in Generation 5, Oshawott served as the Water-type starter Pokemon in the Unova Region.
This resourceful otter carries a shell it uses for fighting. Oshawott wields this scalchop as a blade when attacking enemies or when breaking open hard berries.
Professor Laventon came to the Hisui Region bringing along Oshawott and other Pokemon he met in various other regions. He will entrust you with Oshawott if you choose it as your partner before you start your adventure!
