Steps to proceed through The Trial of Lake Valor
1	Travel to Crimson Mirelands and fly to the northeastern corner of the map to reach Lake Valor.
2	After unsealing the cavern, enter and defeat or capture the Lv58 Alpha Overqwil inside. ▶ Best Pokemon to Beat Overqwil
3	Azelf will appear after the battle and will give you balms to throw. Although it will dodge all the balms, continue trying to throwing balms at Azelf and do not give up. Eventually, you will be able to hit it and complete the trial. ▶ How to Hit Azelf with Balms

Best Pokemon to Beat Overqwil

Recommended Pokemon
Garchomp	Snorlax	Hippowdon

Overqwil is a Dark/Poison type Pokemon, making it take 2x damage from Ground type moves.

Bring a Garchomp or a Snorlax (or both) to this fight and have them spam Ground type moves. Garchomp can learn Earth Power at Lv29 while Snorlax can learn High Horsepower at Lv37.

Alternatively, you can still send in Ground types, even if they're weak to Water type moves, and make them use Strong Style Ground type moves before they get one-shotted by Overqwil's Aqua Tail.

Beat Azelf's Trial by Hitting It with Balms

After defeating or catching the Alpha Overqwil, approach Azelf to continue the trial. You will receive Marsh Balms to throw, and you need to hit Azelf with it to complete the trial.

Although it will teleport when you try to hit it with balms, you must not give up and continue throwing. After choosing the "don't give up" option three times, you will finally land a balm on Azelf and complete the trial.

The Alpha Overqwil you will face during Azelf's trial can be caught. It is recommended to save before starting the encounter in case you knock it out.
