Looted from a Carriage Chest Along the Road of Iniquity

Great Stars can be looted from a carriage moving along the Road of Iniquity in Altus Plateau. To find the carriage, make your way to the Road of Iniquity Side Path site of grace and look south west.

The carriage will be pulled along by 2 Trolls and guarded by a Mad Pumpkin Head alongside a cohort of Leyndell Soldiers. Defeat the enemies before jumping on the back of the carriage and looting the chest containing Great Stars.

How to Reach the Road of Iniquity Side Path and Carriage

1
From the Altus Highway Junction site of grace in Altus Plateau, follow the road north until you reach the Forest-Spanning Greatbridge. Once there, use the teleporter to reach the other side of the broken bridge.
2
After you arrive on the other side, ride east until Torrent can drop down into the shallow valley. Once down there, backtrack west and head for the underside of the ruined Greatbridge to find the Road of Iniquity Side Path site of grace.
3
Rest at the site of grace to reset the area, before facing south west to see the carriage and its caravan of guards. Loot the chest at the back of the carriage to get Great Stars.

Dropped by Magnus the Beast Claw in the Writheblood Ruins

Another Great Stars can be obtained by invading and killing the hostile NPC named Magnus the Beast Claw. His invasion sign will be found in the Writheblood Ruins in Altus Plateau (which is also near the Road of Iniquity Side Path).

In Patch 1.06, his invasion sign was added to the easternmost building of the Writheblood Ruins to allow players to advance White Mask Varre's questline without having to go online.

From the Road of Iniquity Side Path site of grace, head south west until you reach the Writheblood Ruins. Look for the red invasion sign of Magnus the Beast Claw in the easternmost building of the ruins and interact with it to challenge him in his world.
2
Defeat Magnus the Beast Claw to get a Rune Arc and a Furlcalling Finger Remedy. Upon returning to your world after the invasion, you will receive another copy of Great Stars and a Somber Smithing Stone 6.

Best Great Stars Ashes of War
: Wild StrikesAsh of War: Wild Strikes : LionAsh of War: Lion's Claw

Wild Strikes is a great option since its fast slashes take advantage of the Blood Loss buildup and lifesteal on hit of Great Stars. Pairing this ash of war with the weapon absolutely shreds large bosses, especially if they have large openings during their boss fights.

Similarly, Lion's Claw is a great ash of war to infuse into Great Stars since it can easly poise break a lot of bosses in 2-3 casts. The high chance to stagger paired with Bleed allows you to stunlock bosses into an easy win.
