Catch Cherrim from Shaking Trees in The Heartwood

Where to Catch Cherrim in the Heartwood
1
In Obsidian Fieldlands, head to The Heartwood. Keep an eye out for any shaking trees as you move towards the southwest portion of the map. We found Cherrim on the area marked with the Star Stamp in the image above.
2
Once you find a shaking berry tree, use your Pokemon to knock the berries down. A startled Cherrim may appear, starting a battle. The image above is from a berry tree by the Alpha Lopunny.

What to do if Cherrim can't be caught

In Version 1.0.1 of the game, there is a bug in the game where if Cherrim changes form in the middle of battle, it cannot be caught no matter how low its HP gets. The detailed cause is unknown. This is a bug that has been acknowledged by the Pokemon Company and has since been addressed in the 1.0.2. patch.

To have less trouble with catching Cherrim, be sure to update to the latest 1.0.2 patch!

While you can find Cherrim and Cherubi in Obsidian Fieldlands, it might be better to wait until you get access to the Crimson Mirelands area, where they are a bit easier to find.

Catch two that fall out of trees during daylight hours.

As you progress through the story, the number of Research Points you still need for each Pokemon will undoubtedly change, but following the process above and skipping unneeded steps will work for achieving the goal.

Petal Dance learned at Level 47

Cherrim learns the move Petal Dance when it reaches Level 47, so it is not recommended to prioritize this Research Task to raise Cherrim's Research Level quickly, unless you already have a high-level Cherrim.

For the research tasks, I recommend catching 1 cherrim from trees during daylight hours from coronet highlands, where cherrims are more common. Use a few exp candies and you should be able to complete the research tasks with petal dance.
