Season 9 is now live as of July 1, 2025 at 10 AM PST, right after the end of Season 8. This new season introduces the new seasonal mechanics, items, and a new endgame content called the Escalating Nightmare.

Horadric Spells
The Sins of the Horadrim will introduce a new seasonal mechanic called the Horadric Spells. The effects of these new abilities can be customized based on the combination of Infusion, Catalyst, and Arcana you choose. You activate your Horadric Spell by binding it to any skill on your hotbar. Once bound, the spell's effects will automatically trigger whenever you use that skill, as long as it is not on cooldown.
Horadric Strongrooms
The Horadric Strongrooms are micro dungeons found within Nightmare Dungeons. Inside, you can collect Horadric Attunement by killing enemies and activating the pillars, which improves the chest you receive after defeating the mini-boss at the end of the run.
Escalating Nightmare
Escalating Nightmares is a new endgame feature that requires you to progress through a series of Nightmare Dungeons with increasing difficulty. At the end of the dungeon sequence, you can encounter Astaroth from the base game. This new dungeon requires an Escalation Sigil, which must be used to enter.
Astaroth Boss Returns
Astaroth, a boss first introduced in the main campaign of Diablo 4, makes his return in Escalating Nightmares. Note that Astaroth is not considered a Lair Boss and does not require any materials to summon.
Astaroth Location and Unique Drops
New Dungeon Affixes
A new set of affixes will be added to Nightmare Dungeons alongside the introduction of Strongrooms and Escalating Nightmares, making these dungeons more rewarding to run as you progress through the endgame.
Nightmare Dungeon Tier List for XP and Obducite
Horadric Jewels
Alongside Horadric Spells, Season 9 will also introduce Horadric Jewels. These gems can be socketed into any of jewelry that you have equipped to further modify and enhance the effects of your current Horadric Spell.
Horadric Tomes are Needed to Unlock Jewels
As soon as you reach Torment I you will be able to collect tomes from Horadric Strongrooms. Tomes are used to learn Horadric Jewel crafting. Aside from the tomes, you will also need Horadric Phials and Gem Fragments to begin crafting them.
New Uniques
For Season 9 (Sins of the Horadrim), 6 new unique items will be added into the game, one for each class. These additions brings new build options and exciting synergies that can redefine your class.
New Seasonal Questline
Dive into the new season with a brand new questline featuring the character Bryona. Help her deal with the threats arising from Aztaroth's return and progress through the questline to receive numerous rewards.

New Season Journey
The Season Journey retains the introduced Journey System from Season 8. The season journey ccomes with Smoldering Ashes and Horadric Phials as rewards for your progression.
