The beloved Horadric Cube is returning in the latest expansion of Diablo IV, Lord of Hatred. Introduced all the way back in Diablo II, the Horadric Cube is an artifact that allows players to transmute items.
Previously, the Horadric Cube allowed players to craft items and combine runes by putting them into the cube and transmuting them.
Lord of Hatred Expansion Release Date

The Kanai's Cube succeeded the Horadric Cube in the Diablo III expansion, Reaper of Souls. It retained some of its core functionalities, such as the ability to transmute items, and added the ability to convert materials.
However, Kanai's Cube's defining feature was its ability to use three legendary passive effects without equipping them.
By transmuting a legendary item into the cube, players could equip a legendary effect with the maximum modifier roll possible on one weapon, one piece of armor, and one accessory.
Although it is not explicitly stated, it is highly likely that the Horadric Cube will return with recipes for crafting items. Since Diablo III also had an item recipe through the Kanai Cube, it's highly likely that this feature will be included with the Horadric Cube.
One of Diablo II's core defining features is its iconic Runes system. This system allows players to significantly customize their builds and make them much more powerful by combining Runes in the Horadric Cube to create specific Runewords.
Since runes and runewords were introduced in the Diablo IV expansion Vessel of Hatred, the framework for the runes system is already in place.
There is a possibility that the rune system will be updated to interact with the Horadric Cube for the purpose of acquiring more runewords.
