In Diablo 4 (D4), players are required to make new seasonal characters to participate in seasonal content. See why you should create a new character for the season, as well as what happens to seasonal characters when the season ends.
List of Contents
Players who wish to participate in the Season of the Malignant are required to create a new character on the new Seasonal Realm. Existing characters in the Eternal Realm cannot be used in seasons.
Making new characters ensures that players will have a similar start for the Season Journey.
Season 1 Release Time and What We Know
There are no downsides for playing in a season as it includes all the content of the base game as well as the new seasonal content. Seasonal characters are not deleted at the end of the season, so making a character in the Eternal Realm will essentially make you miss out on the new seasonal content.
The only reason to make a character in the Eternal Realm would be to try to experience what Diablo 4 was like at launch if you want to try it in a pure form, but there is no in-game benefit of doing so.
According to Rod Fergusson's Tweet, seasonal characters can be used to play the campaign, while still being able to progress through the Season Journey and Battle Pass.
This is another reason to create a seasonal character even if you have not completed the campaign yet.
Campaign Walkthrough and Main Quests
In Diablo 3, there is a Rebirth feature that converts non-seasonal characters into level 1 Seasonal characters. This allows your old characters to be used in the Seasonal Realm and even includes their non-seasonal gear.
Is Seasonal Rebirth Coming to Diablo 4?
Seasons last for about three months, and Seasonal characters are moved to the Eternal Realm when the season is over. They can still be played during the off-season so you players need not worry about losing the Seasonal character you have invested in!
List of Seasons: How Do Seasons Work?
Players can prepare for Season One and get a head start once the season launches. Renown and map progression will carry over to the next season, among other things.
