Anuttacon’s AI-Driven Sci-Fi Game Revealed
In a galaxy not so far away, a new game is on the rise, as Anuttacon, an indie game developer and publisher founded by HoYoverse CEO Cai Haoyu, has unveiled its debut title, Whispers From The Star, a narrative-driven sci-fi interactive experience. Alongside the reveal, HoYoverse announced on Twitter (X) last week that there would be a closed beta test.
Whispers from The Star introduces players to Stella, a university student studying astrophysics. After crash landing on the alien planet Gaia, Stella finds herself isolated, with only her communicator to reach out for help. She can contact the player, however, and as her guide, the player must guide her through text, voice, and video messages.
The gameplay here revolves around actually striking conversations with Stella through video, voice, and text. As per the developers, through Bleeding Cool News, the game is designed to reimagine the art of interactive storytelling "by breaking free from traditional dialogue trees, using AI-enhanced dialogue to enable open-ended conversations that feel fluid, personal, and immersive."
While many are excited by the potential for personalized gameplay, the game's AI-driven interactions have sparked concerns, particularly on platforms like Reddit. Worries range from the emotional impact of AI relationships to the potential displacement of human actors, a sensitive issue especially given the SAG-AFTRA strike's focus on AI's role in the industry.
Regardless, Anuttacon has announced a Closed Beta for Whispers From The Star for select gamers in the United States. An exact date and time for the beta test hasn’t been set yet, but interested players can sign up on the developer’s website to secure their spot. Notably, this test is only available to "iPhone 12 or above." Android devices and iPads are currently not supported.
