There are several types of Currencies in Diablo 4 (D4), each used to purchase various goods and services from multiple vendors. Read on for a list of all Currencies in the game and learn how to get them and where to spend them!

Currency	Description	How to Get
Gold	Used in availing services and making purchases at certain vendors in towns.	Dropped by enemies, looted from chests, and rewarded by Side Quests and Events.
Murmuring Obols	Currency used to purchase randomized equipment and Whispering Keys from Purveyors of Curiosities.	Obtained as rewards from World Events, Legion Events, and specific Side Quests.
Red Dust	PvP-exclusive currency. Used to purchase items from Unsavory Oddities Vendors in Dry Steppes and Kehjistan.	Earned from Altars of Extraction by successfully purifying Seeds of Hatred.
Seeds of Hatred	PvP-exclusive currency. Becomes Red Dust after being purified.	Obtained from slaying demons, completing events, opening chests, and killing other players in the Fields of Hatred.
Grim Favors	Currency used at the Tree of Whispers in exchange for Experience and random caches.	Earned as rewards from daily Whispers of the Dead Bounties.
Whispering Keys	Unlocks Silent Chests scattered around the open world.	Sold for 20 Murmuring Obols at Purveyors of Curiosities.
Aberrant Cinders	Currency exclusive to Helltide events. Used to open Helltide Caches, which contain items of specific equipment slots.	Obtained from slaying demons, completing events, and opening chests during Helltide events.
Smoldering Ashes	Currency exclusive to Seasonal Battle Passes. Used to unlock and upgrade Seasonal Blessings.	Obtained from reaching certain tiers on the Free Track of Seasonal Battle Passes.
Platinum	Premium currency that can only be acquired using real money. Used to purchase paid Battle Passes and cosmetic items at the Shop.	Purchase Platinum in-game using real money.
Pale Marks	Used to Barter in The Den.	Reward for raising the Rapport Rank of your Mercenaries

Where to Spend Currencies

Gold

Upgrade and Repair at the Blacksmith

One of the primary uses for Gold is upgrading and repairing equipment at the Blacksmith. Since Diablo 4 features a durability system, we recommend repairing at the Blacksmith frequently to ensure your gear is in optimal condition.

In addition, we suggest upgrading your weapons and armor after collecting enough Crafting Materials and Gold to improve your character's overall power.

Extract and Imprint Aspects at the Occultist

Sufficient Gold is also a requirement for extracting and imprinting Legendary Aspects at the Occultist. Try to save up Gold so you can gather every Aspect you come across and imprint them later on higher-level gear!

Buy Potion Upgrades and Elixirs at the Alchemist

You will also need Gold to upgrade your Health Potion and craft Elixirs at the Alchemist. While you'll also need plenty of prerequisite materials, the improved healing and multiple bonuses of the Alchemist's enhanced potions and Elixirs are worth the money.

Respec Skills at the Skill Tree

You will also need Gold to refund Skill Points at the Skill Tree. The cost to respec at the Skill Tree depends on the number of points you've already invested, so ensure you have enough Gold before refunding your Skill Points.

Murmuring Obols

Gamble at the Purveyor of Curiosities

You can spend Murmuring Obols at Purveyors of Curiosities to gamble for items of random rarities for different equipment slots. After maxing out the amount of Obols you can carry, try your luck at gambling for Legendary gear!

Purchase Whispering Keys

Aside from gambling, you can also spend 20 Murmuring Obols to purchase Whispering Keys at Purveyors of Curiosities. You can use these Keys to open Silent Chests in the open world that contain plenty of gold and random equipment.

Red Dust

Buy Items at the Unsavory Oddities Vendor

Purifying Seeds of Hatred dropped from the Fields of Hatred PvP Zones rewards you with Red Dust. You can spend Red Dust at the Unsavory Oddities Vendors in Dry Steppes and Kehjistan to receive a variety of items, including cosmetics, mounts, and random equipment.

Purify to Convert into Red Dust

Seeds of Hatred are a PvP-exclusive Currency that drops from demons, Events, and fellow players in the Fields of Hatred. Take them to an Altar of Extraction as soon as possible to purify and convert them into Red Dust to prevent yourself from losing them to another player on death.

Grim Favors

Offer 10 to the Tree of Whispers for Caches

You can earn Grim Favors by completing the daily Whispers of the Dead bounties. After collecting 10 Grim Favors, you can offer them at the Tree of Whispers to receive a massive amount of Experience and a choice between different caches of items.

Whispering Keys

Open Silent Chests

As mentioned in the Murmuring Obols section, you can use Whispering Keys to open Silent Chests found in the open world. These chests contain plenty of gold and random equipment, so try to open each one you come across!

Cinders

Collect and Spend During Helltide

You can spend the Cinders you obtain while killing foes and completing World Events during Helltide events to open Helltide Caches. These Helltide Caches provide items for specific equipment slots, allowing players to target-farm Legendary items.

Smoldering Ashes

Unlock and Upgrade Seasonal Blessings

You can spend Smoldering Ashes to unlock and upgrade Seasonal Blessings, which provide bonuses to your XP gain, Gold drops, Obol drops, and other unique buffs.

While players can have multiple Seasonal Blessings active at once, note that these buffs only last until the end of their respective Season.

Platinum

Purchase Cosmetics at the Shop

You can spend Platinum to purchase armor sets, mounts, emotes, headstones, and other cosmetic items at the in-game Shop. Note that Shop items bought using Platinum are account-bound and cross-platform, letting you wear them on any eligible character on every platform.

Buy Premium Battle Passes

You can also purchase the paid Battle Pass tracks using Platinum, granting you access to cosmetic rewards from the paid tiers.

Pale Marks

Purchase Items at the Bartering Vendor

As you grind for levels, make sure to have a Mercenary equipped to raise your Rapport Rank. This will not only help you in combat but also grant you Pale Marks, which can be used to purchase a variety of items at the Bartering Vendor to prepare for endgame.
