Sanctification is an itemization feature for the final upgrade of your equipment in Diablo 4 (D4). Read on to learn how to sanctify equipment, as well as the requirements to unlock and use Sanctification.

How to Sanctify Items
Use the Anvil at the Heavenly Forge
Sanctify your items by interacting with the anvil nearby Hadriel in the Heavenly Forge. You can access this area by going to any main settlement and using the portal leading to the Heavenly Forge.
Requires Heavenly Sigils
Past level 60, sanctification requires Heavenly Sigils, an item which you can farm in Legion Events and World Bosses.
While leveling, you are sometimes granted the option to sanctify any item for free. You'll know you're granted a free sanctification when a portal to Heavenly Forge appears in your location, and a small anvil icon appears above your XP bar.
What to Do Before Sanctification
Upgrade Your Items
Keep in mind that Sanctification makes your item unmodifiable. With this mechanic, it's best to keep in mind the following item upgrades you need to do before sanctification. Below is the list of item upgrades you can do:
- Tempering (Blacksmith)
- Masterworking (Blacksmith)
- Adding Jewelry Slots (Gem Vendor)
- Imprint Aspects (Occultist)
- Reroll Affixes (Occultist)
How to Unlock Sanctification
Reach the Heavenly Forge in the Seasonal Questline
You can unlock the Heavenly Forge by completing the Divine Missive introductory quest of the Season 11 Questline. You can start accessing the Heavenly Forge inside major cities as soon as this quest has been completed.

What is Sanctification?
Final Enhancement for Items
Sanctification grants a random enhancement for any of your items. It can increase its quality, grant a bonus affix, or even grant a greater affix. However, sanctification will also make your item unmodifiable, meaning that no further upgrades can be done on it.
Keep in mind that you can still change the gems inside the gem slots of a sanctified item.
