Athletics Skill Progression Guide

How to Level Up Athletics

Gained by punching or using melee weapons, as well as jumping. By equipping a weapons with a high attack speed (like a katana), you can mash the attack button for about 35 seconds to gain 20 EXP.

An extremely easy exploit for leveling up Athletics quickly involves entering berserk mode, and then rapidly attacking with a melee weapon equipped. This will allow you to level up roughly once a minute for lower levels. An Operating System with a long duration, such as the Militech Berserk MK.5 is best for this.

List of Athletics Perks and How to Unlock

Perk Attr. Level Effect at Lv. 1 Rating & Reason
Regeneration
Regeneration
3 Health slowly regenerates during combat. C Rank Icon
Regenerating in combat takes too long to start and regens too slow. Using Healing items are much more effective
Pack Mule
Pack Mule
3 Increases carrying capacity by 60. B Rank Icon
Increased carrying capacity is useful, but inventory management is fairly easy when your vehicle is also a mobile stash. Pack Mule will only increase the time before you need to do inventory management.
Invincible
Invincible
5 Increases max Health by 10%. S Rank Icon
More health will let you take more damage before dying. Always good.
True Grit
True Grit
5 Increases max Stamina by 10%. A Rank Icon
More stamina is good for any build to let you dodge and run more, and even better on melee builds
Epimorphosis
Epimorphosis
7 Health regenerates up to 70% of max Health outside of combat. B Rank Icon
This is a nice quality of life perk, but is not necessary to have in the long run as there are a ton of healing items you can use.
Soft On Your Feet
Soft On Your Feet
7 Reduces fall damage by 5%. C Rank Icon
Decreased fall damage isn't something you will find useful through your playthrough in any build or situation.
Gladiator
Gladiator
9 Reduces the amount of Stamina consumed when blocking melee attacks by 20%. C Rank Icon
Most enemies you will be fighting are not going to be the melee enemy type.
Steel And Chrome
Steel And Chrome
9 Increases melee damage by 10%. A Rank Icon
A must have in any Melee build. The increased damage is always useful.
Divided Attention
Divided Attention
11 Allows you to reload weapons while sprinting, sliding and vaulting. S Rank Icon
It allows you to stay mobile during fights without having to stop and reload. Good on any weapon, great on shotguns and other low mag size guns.
Like A Butterfly
Like A Butterfly
11 Dodging does not drain Stamina. B Rank Icon
Useful in Beat on the Brat and in any melee build. Outside of those situations not very impactful.
Multitasker
Multitasker
11 Allows you to shoot while sprinting, sliding and vaulting. A Rank Icon
Useful in builds that love to run and gun. This makes you hard to hit and still allow you to dish out damage.
Cardio Cure
Cardio Cure
12 Health regenerates 25% faster as you move. C Rank Icon
Increase in health regen is so small it is negligible. Not a problem when healing items are abundant.
Stronger Together
Stronger Together
12 Increases damage you deal while carrying a body. C Rank Icon
This perk requires Transporter. You can get around double damage but only with pistols.
Transporter
Transporter
12 Allows you to shoot with Pistols and Revolvers or sprint while carrying a body. C Rank Icon
Only relevant in a few situations/objectives. Outside of those situations it is pretty useless.
Human Shield
Human Shield
14 Increases Armor by 20% when grappling an enemy. C Rank Icon
You wont be in a lot of situations where you will be grappling someone and getting shot at. You cannot grapple someone when combat has started making it even more useless.
Marathoner
Marathoner
14 Sprinting does not drain Stamina. B Rank Icon
Unlocks at body 14. By that level, for sprinting to make a noticeable affect on your stamina you would need to be sprinting for a pretty long time. Something you wont be doing often. A useful application is to make sure you can run away after spending some stamina with melee attacks
Dog of War
Dog of War
16 Increases Health regen in combat by 15%. C Rank Icon
Health regen in combat takes too long to start and regenerates too slow. There is an abundance of healing items, making this perk redundant.
Wolverine
Wolverine
16 Health regen activates 50% faster during combat. C Rank Icon
Even with 90% faster regen, it is still too slow to have an impact during combat. Using health items are much more effective and you will always have one.
Steel Shell
Steel Shell
18 Increases Armor by 10%. S Rank Icon
Increases your armor's effectiveness, making you tankier. Gives more survivability.
The Rock
The Rock
20 Enemies cannot knock you down. C Rank Icon
Immunity to knockdown isn't very useful when there aren't many enemies that can have the effect. There is also an added side effect of cars dealing even more damage to you when running into you.
Indestructible
Indestructible
20 Reduces all incoming damage by 10%. S Rank Icon
Damage reduction to every type of damage is useful in every situation
Currently UnavailableHard Motherfucker Level 20 in Athletics When entering combat, Armor and Resistances increase by 10% for 10 sec.
+1% per Perk level.
S Rank Icon
More reduction to damage taken is always good.

    • In the crafting screen, would love to see a comparison between what I'm currently equipped with vs what I've selected to craft. In the Inventory screen, I have no idea where any extra weight is without going into each category (weapons, clothes, etc). Please add some sort of weight indicator next to each category so I know exactly where I seem to be overloaded. In the Map, please mark completed items (assault in progress, access points), grey out the icons or something similar?

    • When I grapple NPCs I can see black patches flashing on the back of their head, shoulders, and back. Like they are rendering properly.
