Things to Do Before Starting Your Adventure
Select a Character
At the beginning of the game, Professor Rowan will give you an option to choose a character. Select the appearance of the character you prefer and give it a name. You can also choose a name for your rival.
Character Creation and Customization
Talk to Your Mom
You will find your character in a room watching a news report on the TV about the search for the Red Gyarados. After the dialogue, you can check the computer and a note on the wall for some game info.
Go down the stairs and speak with your mom. She will tell you that your rival has called and wants you to visit him. Visit your rival and start your adventure!

Twinleaf Town Objectives (1st Time)
| Steps to proceed through Twinleaf Town | |

| 1 | Walk outside and visit your rival. Your rival's house is the top left building in Twinleaf Town. |
| 2 | You'll encounter your rival at their front door. He will forget something and return back inside the house. Follow him and go upstairs. |
| 3 | Go outside the house and travel north of Twinleaf Town. Meet your rival at the entrance of Route 201. |

| Steps to proceed through Twinleaf Town (2nd Time) | |

| 1 | Talk to your mom. She will advise you to visit Prof. Rowan at the lab in Sandgem Town and explain why you had no choice but to use his Pokemon. |
| 2 | Go to Sandgem Town. Before leaving, you will receive a pair of Running Shoes from your mom. Wearing the shoes will make you get to places much faster. |

| 1 | Enter your house and talk to your mom. You will receive a Journal. A Journal will keep a record of your daily events. To view your Journal, check your Bag and go to Key Items. |
| 2 | Your rival's mom will arrive and ask you a favor to bring a Parcel for his son. Go to Jubilife City and find your rival. Pass through Route 202 to reach Jubilife City. |
