---|---|
1 | Your rival will notice the briefcase that Prof. Rowan left behind. Go through the grass and check the briefcase. |
2 | A Starly will attack you, choose a Pokeball inside the briefcase and use that Pokemon in your battle. After the battle, return to Twinleaf Town. The Pokemon you have chosen will be your Starter Pokemon. Choose carefully! |
Like with most Pokemon games, you have an option to choose a starter Pokemon. The Pokemon that you will choose will be your primary Pokemon for the rest of the game.

After the events in Spear Pillar, you can go back to Lake Verity and will be able to use Surf on the lake as the water level will rise, letting you reach the cavern in the middle. You can interact with Mesprit, but will not start the encounter as it will begin roaming around the Sinnoh region.
Likewise, you can reach the other side of the lake once the water level rises. You can obtain the TM for Fire Blast here.
