Route 203 Tips & Strategies

Catch Varied Pokemon

It's a good idea to catch more Pokemon before going into battle with your Rival. Barry always chooses the Starter with the type-advantage against yours, so catching a Pokemon that can cover your starter's weakness is a good idea.

Catch a Shinx

Barry's starter Pokemon doesn't have super effective moves against your Pokemon yet, but you might have trouble against his Starly.

It's a good idea to catch Shinx at Route 202 and level it up for this fight. It learns Electric-type moves very early and is also useful against Piplup if you chose Chimchar as your Starter.
