Reflect Type Psychic Guard Split Healing Wish |
Latias doesn't have anything that is particularly threatening as part of its moveset that will give you trouble in catching it. If you bring enough medicine and Pokemon with natural resistances, catching it should be relatively straightforward.
Latias' access to Healing Wish might imply that it can make itself faint before you can catch it but Healing Wish will fail when used by a wild Pokemon.

False Swipe Yawn |
False Swipe Thunder Wave |
When facing Latias, we recommend using either Blastoise with Yawn and False Swipe, or Absol with Thunder Wave and False Swipe. These Pokemon give you a reliable way to whittle down the opponent's HP as low as possible, and access to a status-inflicting move to improve catch rates.
Absol is the best choice here thanks to its immunity to Latias' only attacking move, Psychic. While paralysis from Thunder Wave does not improve catch rate as well as sleep does, it is still a reliable status affliction that you don't have to reapply every few turns.
In case a Quick Ball on turn 1 did not succeed, the Ultra Ball is a reliable go-to ball to use instead. If you are facing Latias at night, Dusk Balls become the better option.
If you are using Blastoise to catch Latias and it uses Reflect Type to become a Water-type, Net Balls will also work well.
If about a dozen turns have passed, you may also rely on the Timer Ball for higher success rates of capture.
List of Recommended Natures | |
---|---|
Modest Special Attack ↑ Attack ↓ |
Timid Speed↑ Attack ↓ |
For players who intend to use Latias to its full potential, we recommend looking for one with a Modest or Timid Nature. As a Special Attacker, it would appreciate the increase to either its Special Attack or Speed and not mind the drop in its Attack stat.
