Who is Buck?

Stark Mountain Doubles Partner

Buck was one of the doubles partners you meet throughout Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. You first meet him in the Fight Area, where he watches you battle Barry. You eventually get to battle alongside Buck in Stark Mountain as part of the story quest to encounter and catch Heatran.

Scavenger of the Magma Stone

With Buck, you'll first retrieve the Magma Stone from Stark Mountain. Afterward, speaking to him and his grandfather at the Survival Area will convince him to return the Magma Stone, which will allow you to encounter Heatran deep within the mountain.
