Pokemon Hideaways are a new feature added to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. These are places where different Pokemon can be found and caught. Some Pokemon are exclusive to Pokemon Hideaways and cannot be found anywhere else on the Sinnoh map.
Pokemon that can be encountered in Pokemon Hideaways vary and can depend on which Statues are placed in the Secret Base, so players should dig often to get more Pokemon Statues and unlock more exclusive Pokemon!

In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Underground feature returns as the greatly expanded Grand Underground!
To unlock the Grand Underground, you'll need to speak to the Underground Man in Eterna City in the house to the right of the Pokemon Center.
He'll give you the Explorer Kit and will give a brief tutorial on how to use it to enter the Grand Underground!
New Features & Differences from Originals
Dig for treasure by tapping the sledgehammer (red) or pickaxe (blue) to uncover the selected area. You can switch between the two tools by pressing R. The sledgehammer removes large sections of rock, but makes the wall collapse faster. The pickax chips away only small pieces, but contributes very little to wall collapse.
The wall collapses when the crack at the top of the screen reaches the left side. Make sure to find all treasures before the wall collapses.
Digging for Treasure and Spheres
Trainers can find Fossils, colored Spheres that can be used to buy Goods and Traps, and Pokemon Statues that can be displayed in Secret Bases while digging in the Grand Underground.
In the postgame, players can also find Mysterious Shards when digging in the Grand Underground. These shards are necessary to purchase slates at Ramanas Park which will give you access to different legendaries!
To create a Secret Base, use a Digger Drill from the Traps menu when facing any wall of the Grand Underground in order to burrow a hole into it. Players can only have 1 Secret Base. Building another will dismantle the existing base.
Decorate the Secret Base with Statues that you obtained through digging. The statues placed in the Secret Base determine what Pokemon will appear in the Pokemon Hideaways.
You can find Diglett and even Dugtrio roaming aroudn the tunnels of the Grand Underground. These drop pink sparkles that will fill up your gauge and improve your chances of digging up Gorgeous Stone Boxes!
How to Find Diglett in the Grand Underground
The Underground Man is located in Eterna City, in the house to the right of the Pokemon Center and gives you tutorial missions on the Grand Underground. Do these missions to obtain Underground items for free and to get quickly familiar with the features of the Grand Underground.

You can get the Odd Keystone from a Black Belt trainer on Route 208, as a hidden item in Twinleaf Town, or while digging for treasure in the Grand Underground. Once you've acquired it, place the Odd Keystone in the Hallowed Tower on Route 209 (the crumbled structure near the easternmost river).
In the original games, you had to talk to 32 Players to increase your tally. As you can no longer interact with other players in the Grand Underground, you now need to talk to 32 NPCs to bring up your tally.
Unlike in the original games where you can talk to the same player 32 times, you now need to talk to 32 different NPCs to bring up your tally!
Sphere Traders are Hikers that will trade useful items to you for spheres. Although counted as NPCs, talking to them doesn't count to your tally.
Sphere Trader Locations
After talking to 32 NPCs, return to the Hallowed Tower and interact with it to trigger a battle where you can catch Spiritomb.
It's no longer possible to play the Capture the Flag minigame in the Grand Underground. You can still visit other players Secret Bases and check out their displayed statues!
Can You Play Capture the Flag?
It's no longer possible to set up traps in the Underground and in your Secret Base. These items were replaced by pedestals, which are cosmetic items that you can use to decorate statues.
Can You Place Traps in the Grand Underground?
It's no longer possible to use decorations such as furniture to customize your secret bases. However, it's still possible to decorate secret bases using pedestals and statues.
Can You Decorate Secret Bases with Decorations?
In the original games, it was possible to bury Sphere to increase their size over time. However, this feature has been removed in the remakes, so you'll need to be patient and keep digging to find large Spheres.
