If the Pokemon you are walking with is hampering your movement or when you want to travel alone, you can simply remove them in the overworld by choosing the Return to Ball option in the Pokemon menu.
In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, one of the Pokemon in your party will be able to walk alongside you as you traverse the entire overworld. This feature was only available in HeartGold and Soul Silver, the Let's Go! games, and with Pikachu only in Pokemon Yellow.
In the original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, select Pokemon may only stroll with you when you are inside Amity Square.
Differences from Original Versions
If you're lucky enough to have a Shiny Pokemon, you might as well show it off as it follows you around in the overworld! Shiny Pokemon will have their colors reflected in their overworld models as they follow you around.
You can select any Pokemon in your party as your strolling partner. Access this option in the Pokemon menu and select the Pokemon you want to walk with.
Note that walking Pokemon will not be present when you are inside buildings.
Walking Pokemon will follow you even when you are riding your Bicycle. Whenever you get too far, they will be transported back to you, so don't worry if your Pokemon are lagging behind!
Amity Square now allows you to stroll around with up to 6 eligible Pokemon in your party. In the previous games, you could only stroll around with 1 Pokemon. Your Pokemon don't just stroll directly behind you and are free to roam around. You can call them to you by whistling.
Note that only certain Pokemon are eligible to be brought out in Amity Square.
