You can get the Macho Brace from a Bug Catcher inside the house just north of the Poke Mart after you have shown him all 3 Burmy cloaks.
Burmy's cloak changes depending on where its last battle is. This can either be wild encounters or trainer battles.
Contrary to its evolution Wormadam, Burmy can change its cloak anytime and does not change its type nor its stats.

Before leaving Pastoria City, make sure to grab Defog from the Ace Trainer in the Great Marsh. This move will let you clear out thick fog in some routes.
Steps to proceed through Pastoria City | |
---|---|
1 | Visit Pastoria Great Marsh. Great Marsh is a Safari Zone area where you can hunt and catch Pokemon. |
2 | Enter the Pastoria Gym, and solve the puzzle to reach Gym Leader Crasher Wake's location. Crasher Wake will use Super Potion once his Pokemon's health is too low. Don't forget to heal all your Pokemon at the Pokemon Center and buy Potions before proceeding. |
3 | Challenge Gym Leader Wake. |
4 | Talk to the Galactic Grunt outside the Great Marsh. Walk east, and talk to him again. |
5 | Your rival will approach you. This will trigger a Rival Battle. |
6 | After defeating your rival, travel to Route 213. |
How to Solve the Gym Puzzle | |
---|---|
1 | Go southwest and step on the yellow button. The water will subside. |
2 | Go down the stairs, and travel north. Step on the green button near Gym Leader Wake. |

Pastoria City's Gym Leader, Crasher Wake, is a water-type user. With this in mind, it would be best if you do not only have Electric type moves but also Grass ones to fight his team.
Defeating Gym Leader Crasher Wake will reward you with the items below and unlock Defog (HM05). Once Defog (HM05) is unlocked, you can now use it outside of the battle.

The Great Marsh is Sinnoh's version of the Safari Zone. You can spot rare Pokemon that can only be found inside the facility. You will catch Pokemon here with the use of Safari Balls, bait, and mud instead of regular encounters.
