Moltres can be encountered and caught exclusively in Pokemon Shining Pearl in Ramanas Park by using the Kanto Slate. Be sure to save your game directly in front of the pedestal if you plan on soft-resetting for a good nature.

Moltres doesn't have anything that is particularly threatening as part of its moveset that will give you trouble in catching it. If you bring enough medicine and Pokemon with natural resistances, catching it should be relatively straightforward.

False Swipe Yawn |
False Swipe Thunder Wave | ||
When facing Moltres, we recommend using either Blastoise with Yawn and False Swipe, or Absol with Thunder Wave and False Swipe. These Pokemon give you a reliable way to whittle down the opponent's HP as low as possible, and access to a status-inflicting move to improve catch rates.
Blastoise can be the best choice here thanks to its bulk and natural resistance to Moltres' Burn Up. We don't recommend Breloom due to its weakness to all of Moltres' attacking moves.
Alternatively, Quagsire is another bulky water type with access to Yawn and can be found pretty easily in the Grand Underground.
In case a Quick Ball on turn 1 did not succeed, the Ultra Ball is a reliable go-to ball to use instead. If you are facing Moltres at night, Dusk Balls become the better option.
If about a dozen turns have passed, you may also rely on the Timer Ball for higher success rates of capture.

| Modest Special Attack ↑ Attack ↓ |
Timid Speed↑ Attack ↓ |
For players who intend to use Moltres to its full potential, we recommend looking for one with a Modest or Timid Nature. As a Special Attacker, it would appreciate the increase to either its Special Attack or Speed and not mind the drop in its Attack stat.
