Digging for Treasure and Spheres

Pokemon BDSP Digging Treasure

Find treasure in the Grand Underground by interacting with yellow spots on the walls. Read on to learn how to dig up and mine treasure in the Grand Underground, tips on the digging and mining minigame, and how to dig up treasure with friends in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP).

How to Dig Up Treasure

Dig With Sledgehammer or Pickax

Pokemon BDSP Dig Up Treasure

Dig for treasure by tapping the sledgehammer (red) or pickax (blue) to uncover the selected area. You can switch between the two tools by pressing R. The sledgehammer removes large sections of rock, but makes the wall collapse faster. The pickax chips away only small pieces, but contributes very little to wall collapse.

Use sledgehammer early on, then switch to pickax

When the digging minigame starts, use the sledgehammer to find the general area of where the treasure is. Once you've found it, you can use the pickax to precisely dig it up.

Find All Treasure Before Wall Collapses

Pokemon BDSP Grand Underground Spheres

At the start of the minigame, you'll be told how many treasure items can be found in that spot. Find all the items before the wall collapses. The wall collapses when the crack at the top of the screen reaches the left side. If the wall collapses before you uncover all items, you'll only obtain the items you've fully uncovered.

Tips for Digging for Treasure

Search for Treasure with the Blue Pickax

Use the blue pickax to scout for treasure pieces across the tiles. Take care not to dig in parts that have already been dug out!

The Blue Pickax's Digging Range is plus shape

The blue pickax digs up a plus shape, with minimal disturbance to the mine. This allows you to easily create peepholes as to where treasure may be.

Avoid Digging Up One Item at a Time

When the minigame begins, you'll be informed of the total number of items in the wall. Keeping that total in mind, try to reveal at least part of each of the items first before unburying one completely. This will allow you to choose the rarest item to dig up first, avoiding the risk of missing out on a rare item that you didn't get the chance to identify.

Familiarize Yourself with the Treasures' Shapes

Knowing what shapes the treasures appear in will give you a better idea of where they might be hidden in the mine. Statue Boxes are easy to remember as 3x3 squares.

Below are some of the highly sought-after treasures and what shapes they can be found in.
