List of Contents
You can rematch the Elite Four at any time after becoming champion by entering through the door in the Pokemon League. However, you will only battle the same team that they had from the first time you battled them and you will not obtain any rewards.
To unlock the first Elite Four rematch team, you will first need to get the National Dex by seeing all the Pokemon native to the Sinnoh Dex. Once you have obtained the National Dex, you will face off against their new teams once you enter the Pokemon League door.
How to Unlock the National Dex
The second rematch team of the Elite Four is unlocked after capturing or defeating Heatran in Stark Mountain. Once the Stark Mountain event is completed, you can return to the Pokemon League to face off against their final team.
Each of their rematch teams will have their levels increased by around 10, so it best to level up your Pokemon to at least match theirs. For the first rematch, we recommend leveling your Pokemon up to around Level 80. For the second rematch, it is best to have Pokemon at around Level 90.
Held Items like the Life Orb and Choice Specs can give you an additional advantage in battle by boosting the power of your moves. The Life Orb is the best held item to bring since it can boost both Special and Physical moves at the cost of some HP per turn.
Held Item | Where to Get and Effect |
---|---|
Life Orb | ・ Stark Mountain ・ Exchange for BP in Battle Park (25 BP) An item to be held by a Pokémon. It boosts the power of moves, but at the cost of some HP on each hit. |
Choice Specs | ・ Exchange for BP in Battle Park (25 BP) An item to be held by a Pokemon. These curious glasses boost Sp.Atk but only allow the use of one move. |
Choice Band | ・ Exchange for BP in Battle Park (25 BP) An item to be held by a Pokemon. This curious scarf boosts Speed but only allows the use of one move. |
Many of the Elite Four members' Pokemon will have moves that can increase their damage or defenses. To take them down, it is best to teach stat-boosting moves to your Pokemon.
Specifically, it is best to teach a Pokemon the move Dragon Dance since it can raise both their Attack and Speed. Swords Dance and Nasty Plot can also be used to increase a Pokemon's attacking stat by two stages.
Move | Effect |
---|---|
Dragon Dance | Increases a Pokemon's Attack and Speed stats by one stage. |
Swords Dance | Increases a Pokemon's Attack stat by two stages. |
Nasty Plot | Increases a Pokemon's Special Attack stat by two stages. |
Instead of teaching your Pokemon stat-boosting moves, you can also purchase Battle Items at the second floor of the Veilstone City Department Store. Battle items are useful if your Pokemon is unable to to learn the necessary stat-boosting move.
The Elite Four rematch teams often inflict large amounts of damage and status conditions on your Pokemon, so it is recommended to bring plenty of healing items before challenging them. In particular, we recommend buying Full Restores, which can heal both health and status conditions, and Revives, which can bring a Pokemon back from fainting.
