Catch Inside Stark Mountain

BDSP - Heatran Location.png
You will encounter Heatran as a stationary Pokemon after finishing the events with Buck inside Stark Mountain. You'll find it in the same room where you'll find the Magma Stone.

Steps to encounter Heatran in Stark Mountain
1 After finishing the quest inside Stark Mountain with Buck, head back to Survival Area.
2 Enter the house beside the Pokemon Center and speak to the old man. This will allow Heatran to spawn in Stark Mountain.
3 Travel back to Stark Mountain and head to the room where you and Buck obtained the Magma Stone.
4 Save the game and interact with Heatran to start the encounter.

Heatran doesn't have anything that is particularly threatening as part of its moveset that will give you trouble in catching it. If you bring enough medicine and Pokemon with natural resistances, catching it should be relatively straightforward.

When facing Heatran, we recommend using either Blastoise with Yawn and False Swipe, or Absol with Thunder Wave and False Swipe. These Pokemon give you a reliable way to whittle down the opponent's HP as low as possible, and access to a status-inflicting move to improve catch rates.

Blastoise can be the best choice here thanks to its bulk and natural resistance to Heatran's STAB moves. Alternatively, Quagsire is another bulky water type with access to Yawn and can be found pretty easily in the Grand Underground.

Best Balls to Use

In case a Quick Ball on turn 1 did not succeed, the Dusk Ball is a reliable go-to ball to use instead.

If about a dozen turns have passed, you may also rely on the Timer Ball for higher success rates of capture.
