This setting toggles whether the game autosaves or requires manual saving. Generally, it's best to turn off the autosave so that you can plan ahead opportunities for soft resetting, such as before battles with Gym Leaders or Elite Four members.
You can also reroll to obtain certain special Pokemon with the right Natures and Effort Values, particularly those of the Starters and Legendary Pokemon.
How to Reroll for Best Nature and IVs
You can't change the language settings of your text once you confirm your choice at the start of the game, so be sure to choose the one you're comfortable with!
This setting determines whether you have the opportunity to switch your Pokemon when your opponent changes Pokemon, without it costing a turn. Selecting Switch will allow you to switch Pokemon after being told what Pokemon your opponent will change to next, while selecting Set will let the opponent just let out the Pokemon immediately.
Switch is better as it allows you to be better prepared for your opponent's next Pokemon and not waste a turn switching them out, if you end up being at a type disadvantage, for example. Set is the more challenging option for the more advanced players.
When toggled on, you are given a prompt to give a newly caught Pokemon a nickname. When toggled off, the newly caught Pokemon is immediately sent to your team or boxes.
This toggles whether you want to see the nicknames other players gave their Pokemon when camping or battling with them. This setting has no impact on gameplay speed or efficiency.
Additionally, you can adjust the volume level of Background Music, Sound Effects (which include those of moves, environmental sounds, etc.), and Pokemon Cries. Each can be adjusted to levels 0 through 10. To completely mute the type of sound, set the volume level to 0.
You can also pick between 24 unique designs of text window. The designs alter the border of the box that displays on-screen text and dialogue.
