Pokemon BDSP Battle Online

This is a guide on how to battle online in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP). Read on to learn how to access the Union Room locally and online in order to take part in online battles!

How to Battle Online

Steps on How to Battle Online
  1. Access Union Room
  2. Player 1 selects Call then Battle in the Union Room, then speech bubble appears over their head
  3. Player 2 interacts with them by pressing A when facing them
  4. Confirm whether Single or Double battle

Access Union Room

Union Room

In order to battle with other trainers, players will have to go to the Union Room. Access the Union Room by simply pressing Y anywhere in the Sinnoh region. You can get access to this feature after beating Roark and proceeding to the basement of the Pokemon Center.

Choose Local or Global Room

Global Room

In the Union Room, choose the Local Room to interact with players via local network communication or the Global Room to interact with players around the world via online communication. The Global Room requires a Nintendo Switch Online Subscription.

In the Union Room, players that are willing to battle will have a speech bubble with 2 clashing Pokeballs above their head. To initiate battle, interact with a player with this speech bubble above their head. Only 1 person between the 2 needs to select Battle, otherwise both players will just be standing around with speech bubbles above their head.

Is There Ranked Battle Online?

The competitive scene of Pokemon Ranked Battles is not supported on Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. If you're looking to test your skills competitively, you will have to play Pokemon Sword and Shield instead.
