TMs break when used and are single-use, so use TMs sparingly. Read on to learn if you should use TMs and the best use and time to learn TMs in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP).
TMs are single-use, consumable items because they break after the move is taught to a single Pokemon. In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you now receive multiple copies of TMs from Gym Leaders and other NPCs, but they should still be used sparingly due to how limited they are.
You can also purchase some TMs from the 3rd floor of the Department Store in Veilstone City (using money) or from the Exchange Service Counter at the Battle Park (using Battle Points).
You can use these TMs as many times as you like, as their supply is infinite. However, take into account that it is difficult to earn Battle Points at the Battle Tower and that you may want to spend your BP on an Ability Capsule, EV training items, or other rare items.
Conserving your TM usage will help you more in the post game than during the main story. In the post game, you'll gain access to the Battle Tower and National Dex Pokemon. Having key TMs for creating competitive-ready Pokemon is essential, as buying more TMs can cost high amounts of BP at the Battle Tower, or hard-to-obtain numbers of Spheres to buy from Sphere Traders in the Underground.
While Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl doesn't have an official ranked battle, online battle is still present and a viable scene for competitive players who want to experience a different metagame from Sword and Shield.
Additionally, note that HMs have been removed in the remakes and are now TMs 93 through 100. You don't need to teach Pokemon these TMs to use the Hidden Moves outside of battle, as the Hidden Moves now come on a Poketch app that calls on wild Pokemon to use the move.
Below are useful TMs that you can't purchase repeatedly at the Veilstone Department Store or that are quite expensive at the Exchange Service Corner at the Battle Park. It's recommended to conserve usage of these TMs and only use them on your top tier Pokemon.
