Ice Beam Sheer Cold Aqua Ring Origin Pulse |
We recommend bringing a Pokemon that is higher than Level 70 when trying to catch Kyogre. Sheer Cold will not work if your Pokemon is a higher level than Kyogre.
Aqua Ring will make keeping Kyogre's HP low a pain, but thankfully it doesn't really heal a lot and you should be able to bring it down to the red-zone pretty easily with moves like False Swipe.

False Swipe Yawn |
False Swipe Thunder Wave Taunt |
When facing Kyogre, we recommend using either Blastoise with Yawn and False Swipe, or Absol with Thunder Wave and False Swipe. These Pokemon give you a reliable way to whittle down the opponent's HP as low as possible, and access to a status-inflicting move to improve catch rates.
Blastoise can be the best choice here thanks to its bulk and natural resistance to Kyogre's Ice Beam and Origin Pulse. We don't recommend Breloom due to its weakness to Ice Beam.
You'll have to bring down Kyogre's health every few turns if it gets Aqua Ring off. Absol can help prevent this by using Taunt, making it another effective catcher Pokemon for Kyogre.
In case a Quick Ball on turn 1 did not succeed, the Net Ball is a reliable go-to ball to use instead.
If about a dozen turns have passed, you may also rely on the Timer Ball for higher success rates of capture.
List of Recommended Natures | |
---|---|
Modest Special Attack ↑ Attack ↓ |
Timid Speed↑ Attack ↓ |
For players who intend to use Kyogre to its full potential, we recommend looking for one with a Modest or Timid Nature. As a Special Attacker, it would appreciate the increase to either its Special Attack or Speed and not mind the drop in its Attack stat.
