Zapdos can be encountered and caught exclusively in Pokemon Shining Pearl in Ramanas Park by using the Kanto Slate. Be sure to save your game directly in front of the pedestal if you plan on soft-resetting for a good nature.

We recommend bringing a Ground-type Pokemon for this battle. Zapdos won't be able to do anything against Ground-type Pokemon and will allow your team to stay healthy while up against Zapdos.

False Swipe Spore |
Yawn | ||
When facing Zapdos, we recommend using Breloom with Spore and False Swipe. This gives you a reliable way to whittle down the opponent's HP as low as possible, and access to a status-inflicting move to improve catch rates.
Breloom is a great choice because it resists Zapdos' Thunder and Zap Cannon. Alternatively, Quagsire is completely immune to Zapdos' Electric-type attacks. It also has access to Yawn and can be found pretty easily in the Grand Underground.
It may be nice to whittle Zapdos' HP down with Breloom before switching to Quagsire as you try to keep it asleep and attempt to catch it.
In case a Quick Ball on turn 1 did not succeed, the Ultra Ball is a reliable go-to ball to use instead. If you are facing Zapdos at night, Dusk Balls become the better option.
If about a dozen turns have passed, you may also rely on the Timer Ball for higher success rates of capture.

|---|---|
| Modest Special Attack ↑ Attack ↓ |
Timid Speed↑ Attack ↓ |
For players who intend to use Zapdos to its full potential, we recommend looking for one with a Modest or Timid Nature. As a Special Attacker, it would appreciate the increase to either its Special Attack or Speed and not mind the drop in its Attack stat.
