How to Beat Tower Tycoon Palmer in the Battle Tower

Pokemon BDSP How to Beat Palmer

Tower Tycoon Palmer is one of the most challenging Trainers in the Battle Tower. Read on to find out how to defeat Tower Tycoon Palmer in the Battle Tower in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP).

Single Battle Against Tower Tycoon Palmer

BDSP - Tower Tycoon Palmer.png

The Tower Tycoon is your rival's father and the trainer you battle as the 21st and 49th consecutive Single Battle. His team changes between the 2 battles. Read on to see Tower Tycoon Palmer's teams and how to beat them.

Pokemon BDSP RhyperiorRhyperior Solid Rock Expert Belt Rock Wrecker

A strong Physical Attacking Electric-type Pokemon may be useful against Milotic. But be wary of bringing it down to low health and activating Salac Berry. Dragonite can be difficult because of its Multiscale Ability. Expect to 2HKO Dragonite and one of your Pokemon getting KO'd by it.

Rhyperior can easily be taken down by a super-effective Grass or Water-type move.

Second Single Battle (on 49th consecutive battle)

Pokemon Ability Item Moves

Pokemon BDSP CresseliaCresselia Levitate Leftovers Stored Power

Calm Mind
Pokemon BDSP HeatranHeatran Flash Fire Bright Powder Magma Storm

Earth Power
Dark Pulse

Take advantage of Regigigas' Slow Start Ability and take the time to set up your Pokemon's offense. Be sure to knock it out before Slow Start wears off.

Your Pokemon can also set up in front of Cresselia, who does not have a reliable way to damage your Pokemon outside of Stored Power after multiple boosts.

Be ready for Heatran, as this Pokemon can sweep a team if it has no way to hit it for super-effective damage. Having a Pokemon with an accurate Fighting or Ground-type move will be good in this match.

Double Battle Against Rival and Tower Tycoon Palmer

BDSP - Rival and Tower Tycoon Palmer.png

Your rival teams up with his father, Tower Tycoon Palmer to challenge you on your 49th consecutive Double Battle in Master Class Doubles. Their teams change randomly between 3 different team compositions. Read on to see your Rival and Tower Tycoon Palmer's teams and how to beat them.

Both Heracross and Dragonite hit really hard. Be prepared to either tank a hit or knock them out quick. Switching out your Pokemon may be good against this lead because both their Pokemon will be choice locked.

Be ready to 2HKO Infernape and for a Cresselia end-game. Cresselia only has Ice Beam as its offensive move, but it will be hard to take down thanks to its Moonlight.

Be wary of using Intimidate and other things that reduce stats as they may give Empoleon an Attack boost thanks to its Defiant Ability. You also cannot use an Electric-type move freely against Empoleon because of Rhyperior's Lightning Rod. A fast Grass-type is recommended in this match.

A fast Pokemon that resists Staraptor's moves and can hit Heatran for super-effective damage would be good to have in the back. Beware of Staraptor's Speed because it is equipped with a Choice Scarf.

Pokemon BDSP MiloticMilotic Competitive White Herb Muddy Water

Pokemon BDSP HeatranHeatran Flash Fire Focus Sash Earth Power

Your Rival's Torterra should get knocked out by a quick Ice Beam. A super-effective Physical Electric-move should also pick up the KO against Milotic. Both Snorlax and Heatran are susceptible to a super-effective Fighting-type move, but be sure to attack into Heatran again because it has Focus Sash.

Snorlax can be a problem to deal with if it is allowed to set up multiple Curses. Heatran cannot protect itself against a faster attacker.

Best Battle Tower Singles Team

Against Tower Tycoon Palmer's First Team (21st Consecutive Battle)

This matchup may be tricky because Palmer's choice of lead is random. If we have Garchomp out first, and Palmer sends out Dragonite, use Outrage. This will not knock out Dragonite, but it will be in range for a knock out if you send out Suicune or Scizor next.

Expect Dragonite to take out our Garchomp with one Dragon Rush. If Palmer sends out Milotic, switch out to Suicune and set up multiple Calm Minds and attempt to sweep after taking out Milotic with multiple resisted Scalds or Ice Beams.

Garchomp should be able to 2HKO a Rhyperior Lead and still be able to use Outrage on the next Pokemon that Palmer sends out.

Against Tower Tycoon Palmer's Second Team (49th Consecutive Battle)

Palmer's Regigigas can knock out our Garchomp with an Ice Punch. Against this lead, switch into Suicune and set up multiple Calm Minds. If Palmer leads with Cresselia, Garchomp can repeatedly use Outrage. Use Earthquake against Palmer's Heatran.

Best Battle Tower Doubles Team

Against Rival and Palmer Team 1

Against this team, switch out Politoed for Arcanine to give both opposing Pokemon an attack drop with its Intimidate. Using Ludicolo, target Heracross with Hydro Pump and knock it out. Arcanine should be comfortably taking a Thunder Punch from Dragonite.

Arcanine should then use Extreme Speed on Dragonite to break its Multiscale, and Ludicolo should be able to KO with Ice Beam. Infernape should easily go down next by focusing on it with two attacks. Lastly, Cresselia can be knocked out with combined attacks or a Perish Song from Politoed.

Against Rival and Palmer Team 2

With Ludicolo, use Fake Out on Empoleon and Scald Rhyperior with Politoed. On turn 2, Ludicolo can Giga Drain into Empoleon while Politoed uses Scald on Heatran. When both of Palmer's Pokemon are knocked out, you will be battling your rival with the numbers advantage in your favor.

Against Rival and Palmer Team 3

Torterra is the more dangerous Pokemon from your opponent's leads. Ignore Milotic for now and use Fake Out on Torterra with Ludicolo and use Ice Beam with Politoed. When Torterra has been dealt with, Milotic should go down to multiple Giga Drains from Ludicolo. Heatran should get knocked out from super-effective Water-type attacks.

Lastly, close out the match against Snorlax with combined attacks or with Politoed's Perish Song.
