HM Moves (Hidden Moves) now call upon wild Pokemon via a Poketch app! Read on to learn the locations of all Hidden Moves, how to learn HMs and how to use Hidden Moves outside of battle in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP)!
HMs | Acquisition | Requirement |

Cut | From Cynthia at Eterna City | Defeat Gardenia (Eterna Gym) |
Fly | Inside Team Galactic Warehouse in Veilstone City near the entrance | Defeat Maylene (Veilstone Gym) |
Defog | From Ace Trainer in Great Marsh near the entrance | Defeat Crasher Wake (Pastoria Gym) |
Surf | From Cynthia's grandmother in Celestic Town Ruins | Defeat Fantina (Hearthome Gym) |
Strength | From old woman on the top floor of the Lost Tower (Route 209) | Defeat Byron (Canalave Gym) |
Rock Climb | Route 217, behind the western house | Defeat Candice (Snowpoint Gym) |
Waterfall | From Jasmine on the beach north of Sunyshore City | Defeat Volkner (Sunyshore Gym) |
In the original games, you acquired HMs as move-teaching items at various points throughout the story. These Hidden Moves still exist in the remakes, but instead of teaching the moves to your Pokemon, you unlock the feature directly onto your Poketch. This way, you don't need to sacrifice a move slot of your party Pokemon or make use of an HM slave.
Each Hidden Move is found at the same location at the original game, but instead of receiving an HM item, the Hidden Move will be added to the Poketch's Hidden Moves app.
The function of HMs remains the same. You stand facing the obstacle (small tree, boulders, rocky wall), then pull out your Poketch's Hidden Moves app and select the applicable HM to use. You will most likely also be able to press A when facing certain obstacles for it to prompt use of the HM as well, just like in the originals.
Even after you obtain the Hidden Move in your Poketch, you won't be able to make use of it until you obtain a specific Gym Badge. It will appear greyed out on the Poketch screen until the required Gym Leader is defeated.
While they are not required to use like in the original games, each Hidden Move is also available as a TM which players can teach their Pokemon to use the move in battle. These TMs are obtained simultaneously with gaining access to the Hidden Move on the Poketch.
These TMs fill the spots from 93-100, which were not used in the original games.
Hidden Move | Corresponding TM |
---|---|
Rock Smash | TM93 |
Cut | TM94 |
Fly | TM95 |
Defog | TM96 |
Surf | TM97 |
Strength | TM98 |
Rock Climb | TM99 |
Waterfall | TM100 |
The same 8 HMs in the original Diamond and Pearl are now Hidden Moves in the remakes. Below are the list of Hidden Moves and the obstacles they help overcome.
Hidden Move | Purpose |
---|---|
Rock Smash | Smashes a breakable rock |
